ok to double click file to open?

I just remember a long long time ago my lecturer told me it's not really acceptable to open the file by double click the file itself, I'd have to open the program first then file.

Is this still applied with today's technology? or it doesn't matter anymore.

Someone really told you that? That sounds like a waste of time to me. I want to open a file so I will double click on it and it will open the program AND my file! YAY!

yes possibly it doesn't really matter, but I still get this feeling "you should not have done that" in the back of my mind everytime I double click the file,...old school thinking I guess.

Don't worry Juju. I still have to shake myself out of that habit for the same reason. I've had no ill effects of doing that in years.

You'll be fine. Using the OS that way is ok, but to be honest... that's overkill.

Double clicking is the deprecated way of opening a file. The preferred method is control , triple click, with a quarter rotation of the mouse wheel for good measure.

I miss tellTarget. Dot notation is so impersonal.

I always thought it was rude. Why not askTargetNicely() or offerTargetSomeTeaAndCrumpets()?

When was the last time you did something for dot, You use her all the time and you don't even remember her birthday. It's not easy trying to pretty when surrounded by smelly CamelNotation. Is that how your _parent raised you?

This conversation is deeply _rooted in the past. It's OK to double click to open, though I can see why it might be a problem if the application opens another instance of itself instead of one that's already running. For some reason Flash CS3 doesn't like me doing that either. It will tell me it couldn't find the file.
