ok so i put a ethernet card in my pc then the modem wouldnt work

what do i need to do to make an ethernet card work in my pc what software what modem driver etc cause i havent a clue and once i put it in the pc the modem wouldnt even work on usb witch iv had it on for the last 4 years

any ideas greatly appreicated
