So I come home from work last night only to find a couple unknown cars in the driveway and the barn lights on. Thinking nothing of it and guessing it was just the people boarding a horse was visiting I went inside only to have my mom come inside with a bucket to fill with warm water. I asked what was going on, and what had happened was the fields have become very wet with the recent weather and the 3 horses(2 owned, 1 boarded) have put quite the divits(holes in the ground) in the back field and when the cold finally came it froze it over making a death trap out there.
So what happened was our oldest horse Frisco was out walking around and must have got his leg caught in one of these ice holes and when he tried getting his leg out, he ripped out his leg in multiple spots. At first it was just one gash we saw but as we inspected more and began cleaning his leg we found another cut and this one actually ruptured a vein and blood squirt like 6ft. I think it was the first time I have even seen blood squirt out not in a movie. It was bad enough, and wouldn't stop bleeding we actually had to call the vet to come check it out.
It is all better and wrapped up now but man what a lot of blood everywhere. He gets a mini vacation in the barn for a few days and got a lot of extra grain so he is happy now
