I have seen a lot of posts asking for something like, how to get var from Javascript, how to send var to javascript, so I just wonder if people really using search feature in this site, do they really go to the tutorial section? I think FlashKit should make their tutorial and fla download section more stand out.

    Just my 2 cents.

Hi rapidcarbon...I think there are probably as many reasons people don't use the Search feature and Tutorials as there are people at FlashKit...

But I think you're right... probably the biggest reason is a lot of 'newcomers' don't even realize that they exist...and another reason perhaps is 'skill level'. I think a big percentage need an exact answer to their particular problem, before the particular procedure makes any sense...I know I'm that way sometimes

Besides, if everyone quit asking questions...what would people like you and me do? I love it when I can answer a question...it lets me know how far I've come...

And yes it can get a little frustrating when someone asks a question that you just answered three posts before....but when I start thinking like that, I get away from FlashKit for a few days....patience is a big part of a community like this.

Well that's my two cents....and probably more than you wanted to hear

I agree that there are a lot of repeat questions. You don't have to spend much time on this board to notice that.

For some, in their defense, perhaps they are so uncertain of what is wrong/can be done that it is hard enough to phrase a question, let alone a search string that is accurate enough to get an answer.

For the rest, I don't know. Searching for answers is much easier and faster way of retreiving information. I mean...people look in a phone book for a number before calling information, right?

There have been a few suggestions. Many answers will simply give links to the other threads that have answered the questions, or links to the FLAs to download. It's a quick-fix solution, and I see it as a little rude (although sometimes not unnecessarily so ) Flashkit is still going through it's V2 updates, so more prominant tutorial and fla sections are a possibility. I think the best solution would be to have a Frequently Asked Questions link prominantly displayed in the Actionscript board design. A FAQ page can list the frequently repeated questions, a brief answer, and links to the threads that discuss the question in more length.

It is an issue, but I don't think it's a terrible one. As long as there are new people coming to this forum, there will be repeated questions. I just put it in the that's-the-way-it-is category and leave it at that.

So in my opinion, with that in mind, the bottom line is that every question deserves an answer, even if it is just a set of links. Even repeat questions are, at heart, a person asking for help. What makes this such a strong community--and what makes this such a strong board especially--is the willingness of people to help those in need. Even repeat questions get answered here, and I think that's the important thing. No stupid questions, remember?

    cheers!

Hmmm...well I'm definitely guilty of answering with links (look at my footer!)but, never have I intended to be rude...

I feel sometimes a tutorial or a whole thread devoted to a particular subject can answer someone's question better than I ever could...if I just happen to know where that tute or thread is...I've never seen any harm in passing it along...

I guess a little knowledge is a dangerous thing...

I think the idea of having FAQ is execellent. I have counted more than 5 threads today asking about popup window, sending var to javascript, and the like. So if we can collect those into FAQ section that would be nice. So when the FAQ would be up and running, Mr. Moderator?

Pigghost, answer with link is not bad at all. I agree, there is no room and space for us here to answer any question in details, and tutorials are always the best choice. And finally, you are right, always help out the newcomers with the smile even though we don't get paid.

well, I've done it too, pigghost. I guess it's not so much as I think it's always, 100% rude, but I think there's always the danger that the person that asked the question sees it as an impersonal response -- kind of like an automated response from a support email. Or some people might interpret is as saying "Look how easy it was to get this information, are you a moron?" I don't like to take the chance of unintentionally offending someone...

    cheers!

    Hey rapid carbon,
Well ive searched the web far and wide for info on fscommand and popup windows, in the situations ive gotten myself into, i cannot find anyone thats even done a similar thing, even though it would really speed up making images go into popup windows.

Have you actually tried typing fscommand into the search option on this site? All you get is junk, i didn't go any further than 2 pages in but i saw nothing that would help.

But i do agree, some people ask questions that are already answered on websites like:
    actionscripts.org
    and flashplanet.com

    ps
the link if any of you know alot about debugging fscommand scripts is:
    http://board.flashkit.com/board/show...hreadid=171364
if anyone could help me out here anytime soon that'd be good cause otherwise im gonna think of another way.
