tryin to stream a decent sized wav with my decent sized flash movie. it features a lot of hi-res jpg images (not really moving, just appearing, then disappearing).

in the bg is a wav file that i have set to stream (at the settings - mp3, 160kbps in both the library, and the publish settings area).

however, when i watch the movie in the html file (in which i have the quality set on "best") i get the infamous

    "thtp*thtp*thtp*thtp"

noise. the music plays, and sounds great, but, y'get that "thtp" deal in the background on occasion.

    whut the deal?

    how to fix?

    thanks

Make sure you have also set settings in Library Properties. How many jpgs. The Flash Player eats up RAM like it was going out of style.

We use a software to eliminate ram consumption

http://www.mantaproductions.com/demo.html for an example on streaming jpgs with streaming audio

there are a lot of jpgs (maybe 25? 30?), but, only 1 at a time (like a slide show).

and i set both the library mp3 properties and the publish settings properties (both for the max 160kbps).

    still, tho:

    "thtp*thtp*thtp*thtp"

(and im pushin 256 mb ram at my home pc... does that also mean its killin those on the net, whose pc's are still on good ole 64 mb??)

25 30 jpgs should not be a problem. We use hundreds and thousands in quick succession.

I can not imagine what is happening with your sound. Your not looping it are you?

Try placing your sound alone in another swf and playing it without the slides. Maybe you can track the problem down that way.

Make sure your audio isn't sitting in a movie clip! I've found that Flash trashes streaming audio if it's sitting in a MC.

If it is, try putting it onto the main timeline and give it a whirl...

heya guys... thanks for the continued help!

yeah, the music is already on the main time line. and, unfortunately, i cant really put it in a seperate movie clip or swf file, anyway, because the picture presentation is synced to the music (which is the only reason i have the music streaming in the first place).

i have the movie located here: http://www.americatriumphant.com

and, im in the process of creating a high-res version (with sharper images and higher quality music -- all the same stuff, just better) for people to get on a CD. however, the music, as explained, is "thtp" ing!

I did not experience the distortion you speak of. What about anybody else?

hmm... mebbe it was just my machine at the time...

my biggest concern is that the movie'll look n'play crappy off of a cd, for those with not-the-greatest computers.

the movie on the website is 1.2mb (about). the one being put on the cd is roughly 10 times larger, 12.5 mb (with the pumped up sound and high(er) quality images.

so, what kinda problems do you think i might run into, if someone with the "average" pc tries to run it off their "average" cd-rom drive?

(and btw, thanks, again, for the continued help!)

i've tried a few times, and... my biggest problem is that the music doesnt properly sync with the movie when it plays off the cd (the music is somehow too fast).

    is bad!

    suggestions?

did i make the images too large, perhaps? should i allow them to "smooth"? set them to be jpg 75% compression? would that be the cause of these problems? (right now, i set them to png lossless mode, no smoothin, but... when i test the movie, and i view the stats, some of the pics are comin out to be, like, 256kb each, when, in reality, they're only, like, 40kb jpgs, at most.)

    would THAT cause the problems?

i just want it to look nice for everyone

    thanks for the help!

It's a conflict with the soundcard and graphics hardware. I have one of the famous Ensoniq/Creative cards in combination with a Diamond Viper 16m graphics card--and with the window full size, I experience the sound corruption--but if I reduce the size of the window the sound is ok. This is one of those things that people with slightly older computers deal with. The only way to minimize the problem would be to reduce the sound file size, and/or reduce the byte size of the jpgs. Most people won't complain.

Even with so few images, if they are that heavy, lesser computers are going to have a problem

You will get much smaller file size and just as good quality if you import your images as high quality jpgs and then lower the quality setting in Flash to around 80.

That's about right for CD and will bring your file size down by about half of what you got now.
