Hi Everyone,
I'm really looking forward to the audio session at Flashkit Singapore. I can promise a blistering session with something for everyone from beginners to masters.
My goal is to give you all a bunch of different techniques that you can go ahead and use immediately in your flash projects. These are audio tricks that can save you time, create a greater impact, or just improve the user's experience.
If you have any questions about my presentation, or audio stuff, please feel free to post them here and I'll do my best to help.
Cheers & see you at FlashKit Singapore!

hi there andy!
whoaaaaa... u relly must be the sound expert to be choose as one of the speakers in fk01 singapore.. unfortunately i couldnt attend the conference due to proximity and especially financialdifficulties.. but im also interested in those blistering audio effects u have for the conference... i know that no matter how simple the animation would be.. the sounds would give the drama to it.. some heart pumping audios would raise audience's from their chairs... and wold give a good impression on the site... however it is always be my problem how to compress audios and retaining the quality of the sound.. i saw some sites with, not loops, but the whole music and still the site loads smoothly... (means the whole movie is still small in size..) could u show us some(if not all) of the tricks that u've been talking about? thats only if its ok... thanks!
cheers!

I guess there are no real secrets, just a bunch of techniques that you can use in combination to get the best possible experience...
I'm going to be speaking about:
1) Prioritising sound in the grand scheme of things - if it is less important than the loading of the interface, then creating a loader that will initiate the sound only after the interface has loaded.
2) How different sounds compress differently - MP3 compression bleeds-off different frequencies, and awareness of this can help you decide which loops to select, and how much you can squeeze out of them independently, rather than using a shotgun-approach on export of your movies.
3) Preloading sounds - I'm a big fan of creating swfs for every single interface component and using loadmovie to swap them in and out. For example, all the background music tracks on http://www.tuxedodiplomats.com are independent files, loaded as necessary. If you use load movie, the SWF is cached, so you don't need to download it again if you use the same sound in another part of your interface.
I will say that sound is just a part of the overall experience - In the site you liked that loaded really fast, the designer probably heavily optimised all parts of his file, not just the sound! (and may have had it hosted on a fast server)
After the conference, I will post my notes to the board here, for anyone interested to download and check out.
Cheers!

What a coincidence!
Hello. I've been coming to FK for a couple years now and I usually start every day at work checking out what's new. I can't even begin to explain how valuable I think FK is. However, today was crazy because my name is also Andy Naylor! Pretty odd. The ironic part is that I have a goal to become somewhat of a flash god myself. I love flash! I love experimenting with animation techniques. It makes work seem a little more like fun and less like work. I've mostly been doing clips that end up being output to cd (huge projects) but I love challenging my web skills. It's amazing when people that aren't accustomed come across a sweet flash-based site. It blows them away! That's what I get enjoyment from in work that I do.
Anyway, enough ranting. I just thought you should know that there is another Andy Naylor out there that loves flash design. Dig your music as well. I'm a huge Radiohead fan too!
cheers
