Anyone else run into this error when trying to reinstall MAX on XP? Error 1606. SOmthing like it can't find the network drive ': ocuments and Settings/All Users/Desktop'. I've searched far and wide on various boards and no one seems to be able to come up with a good solution to the prob. Apparently, v4 works fine if you don't reinstall once running xp, but if you end up having to reinstall (like me), you are in trouble. Most people have been going back to wherever they came from (ME, 2000), but I'm enjoying xp and don't want to go back.

You installed Max 4.0 on XP ?
I havent tried but heard that Release 4.0 wouldn't run on XP .... it's that wrong ?

well it works ok on machines that didn't reinstall max after installing xp, at least from what i hear. the problem lies in reinstalling max. basically 3dsmax won't run the add/remove correctly, adn my machine is in a state of thinking that it's installed, yet there is no such directory. when i try to uninstall, since it runs the un/installer from 3dsmax, i get the same error. i'm baffled.

other things to note:
get the new cdilla from discreet.com
make sure you select for "gerbick" only on install and not "all users" (one of the options when installing....don't know why but this works)
clean out your old reg of max by using "windows install cleanup" before attempting any of this. IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS!!

oops pheck, meant to tell you. discreet sent me the patch all of two weeks after I posted that I was waiting on the patch.
I was true to my word though... I've been busier posting in the 3D sections because of it though
thanks for the update man.
