    Hello !

I used Swish 1.x one year ago.
Now I want to practise a little bit and want to create a Flash-Demo.

There I want a figure (a man) to walk from left to right.

    1) Do I use many images or a animated GIF ?
What to to then if I use many pictures ?
    2) Is there somewhere a homepage where you get animated figures for free use ?

    Greetings

    OLLI

One way to do this is using Dingbat Fonts that have pictures of people in different positions, can't think of the name of one off hand but someone will come up with it, the idea is to use a place and remove command on the timeline for each frame you want the charachter to move, basic animation fundamentals.

see the heading at http://www.swishspot.com for an example

See how you go, you can also use animated gifs, you will just have to hunt down the ones you want! then import them as a sprite into your movie!

    Cheers Brettski...

If you want an actual animated figure and not a cheesy dingbat, you can import an animated gif as a sprite (v.2). http://www.animationfactory.com (I think that's the URL) has some nice freebie gifs.

For something original and of better quality, I would go with what Bat_sureshot suggested or some similar application. The good thing about using an application to create your animation is that you can fully control the action and length.

To be perfectly frank, if you still have v.1, get v.2 right now if you want better control and more options over your content.

The PC version of the font (named Swifty) listed above can be found at the The Dingbat pages... http://www.dingbatpages.com/beings/beings03.html

Put the font into your Windows font folder.
    (usually C:\\windows\fonts)

Next time you open Swish, it will be in the lineup of font selections.

No need to import a font...

just check the font choices in the text box...you should find the font name in the drop down list.

Poser would give it a more life-like look, but also increase the file size dramatically.

The font may be cheesy, but it works.

    Just my 2 cents...
Not only is the font smaller in size, it all depends on the "look" you're after so I'm not sure "cheesy" would be an accurate description.

If you want the 2D look and a smaller file, go with the font.

If you want realistic 3D and can take the file size, go with Poser.

[soapbox] Everything has it's purpose [/soapbox]

Wow have we gotten spoiled... just about a year ago that "cheesy" font was being used just about everywhere.

I have both Poser Pro & the Font on differing sites, both are fine..the Font esp works well, with a small file size, I agree with you Lisa. Oh yeah the font is kinda better value too, I bought Poser to do one site with, did that and have only played with it since, only so many times you want a guy walking across the screen you know.
However BOTH look cheesy if overused or used for the sake of it. (same as any effect).
The font can be very effective if toyed with:: changing the heads or diff parts.
AS Brettski said load it in place then remove, next font>> next frame move one, then place/remove. Basic animation , yes, but good practice for anyone learning.
