Grabbing an SWF from website

This might be a stupid question, but . . . . there's this Flash animation on a site that i like and i want a copy of it on my hard drive. How do i download it? I've tried right clicking it to see if i could save it from there and no joy, and i've tried to 'Save Target' on the previous pages link to the page but as the SWF in placed in an HTML, all i save is the HTML and not the SWF.

You shouldn't be trying to steal swf's..
Why don't you email the owner and ask nicely for a copy.

It is quite impossible to get the swf file through any method. You better ask for it from the webmaster.
You can use "Save as..." from IE's File menu, but usually you will only get apiece of the swf...Well it is always better and easier to get by asking for a copy from the owner himself.

while i agree with the others that you should email the owner and ask them for the fla file... the file does exist on your hard drive... in your temp cache -- as long as its not a generator swf... "having" the swf file does not, mean, however, that you can just open it up and change things... even with swf scanner and all of those goodies, you cannot easily reconstruct a swf... and if you can easily reconstruct a good swf... chances are that youre pretty good at flash anyway -- so why copy others...????

You guys should keep in mind that there are alot of reasons for wanting to download a flash movie, and most of them are legit. Let's not forget about all those ultracool flash games out there... and like chattyboy said, it's not exactly easy to ulitize anything from a flash movie given that you lose all the scripting ect.

If you look at the source for the page the movies on, you'll find it's name (eg. awsomegame.swf). Once you know that, I would guess that you could do a search on your comp for the file.. if you have problems finding your cache.. hehe

I, myself, tried once. I came out convinced that is a nonsence for two reasons:

First of all (if you know how to do it), you may have
a scramble kind of puzzle to put togeter and...copy it.
Consequently you'll find yourself prideless and silly, trying to put that poor puzzle back togeter.

Second, while you spend your time to try to understand what the author had in his brain to make it running, you will
understand that you wouldn't like someone else stealing
your beautiful project as you try to do.

Do not copy. Try to express yourself with FLASH.

as many, including myself, have stated... there are legit reasons to want to de-contruct a swf... if you want to know how it was made etc etc... the flash community (like here at flashkit) have reemed people for plagarizing even the "look" of a well known site... i dont deconstrcut a swf because i want to "steal" anything... i just want to learn from people who know what they are talking about... getting books, for example, is pretty expensive, so is taking multi-media courses... most, almost all, free tutorials on the net are prety basic stuff so deconstruction is the only way to learn...

BUT... i will certainly let someone know if i think that they have just ripped someone else off...

ps... like the "tsunami" effect that was in one of the masters of flash books -- i see that everywhere now... is it okay -- not "ripped off" -- because it was in a book????
