An average Flash file has text which looks likeits part of the movie. Just look at most of the Swish files people make. Their text doesn't look like HTML text. It doesn't look like the text on many other professional sites. My flash file is one of the average ones. In other words, how can i make my text high quality so it looks like text on an HTML file?

Well it's not a swish thing it's more over a flash player aliasing thing. Sites that have crisp looking small fonts use specific fonts designed to handle pixelation better such as pixel/minimal fonts. Other times designers use images with the font inside to preserve the crispness of the font.
Here's a good link to explore on the matter.

Here is a recent post of mine that lists many pixel font resources and a link to a page showing some fonts. There is also good information to be found by searching the fonts forum here at FlashKit.
I found that as I used more pixel fonts I had trouble remembering which ones were to be done at 8 pixels, which at 9 etc. (senior moments like this are becoming more common I'm afraid), so I made up a chart that I can reference - this is certainly not all of the comon pixel fonts but it can give you an idea of what is available.
http://www.wellesley.edu/Chemistry/F...ixelfonts.html - black text on white background
http://www.wellesley.edu/Chemistry/F...xelfonts1.html - white text on black background
If there is no number on parentheses after the font name then that font is set at 8 points (including pixel punch - which goes to show that point size is a meaningless measure).
These fonts come from the top three sites in this list of pixel fonts:

http://www.dafont.com/
http://www.miniml.com - there is also an excellent tutorial on the use of pixel fonts here

Shhh!
You can also make a transparent image of your text (you can use .gif, but a .png with alpha transparency looks much better)
This way, you can use any font you want, and still avoid the antialiasing fuzzies.

wcoleman, I went through all the sites you listed. The oone font that I see you have is the Arial11 for flash. I could not find that font on any of the sites. Is it possible to email it to me?

Shhh!
Flick...
Could you send that font to me also.
Thanks!

http://htmlandbeyond.tripod.com/ari11fla.zip right click and save the file - this is from the font's forum.

Help Flick
Flick I downloaded the font and installed it as I have many others in the last day or so but they never are crisp and clear like the ones on your example page at http://www.wellesley.edu/Chemistry/F...ixelfonts.html Do you have any suggestions? I'm having more trouble with this than anything in SWiSH. It seems the only way I can get good fonts is to do as suggested in another post to make my text as a .gif but this is very time consuming and takes up extra space so load time comes into play.
Flick I have said it before, but let me say again how much I appreciate you and all the other people on this board with the know how of SWiSH & Flash taking the time to help us newbies.
Thanks

Yea, you're right, It's never as crisp and clear as how the pro's have it. And, I would like to thank everyone on this board who has either helped me or others.

LTH and Raging Tiger - when you used these pixel fonts were you careful to follow the 4 cardinal rules:
1. left justify the text
2. set the text at the correct point size (usually 8, but others are beginning to use other settings)
3. set the pivot point for the text at top left (in the transform panel)
4. set that top left corner on integral values of x and y (also in the transform panel), and if you move the text or add more text always reset it to integral values.
(LTH - thanks for the thanks - always happy to help, sometimes whether or not I actually know the solution)
Cheers,
Flick

Tried everything
Flick I tried everything you posted and my text still looks blurry. Take a look at this test: http://www.marinelaunch.com/test1/test_flash.htm It is made with the Arial 11 for flash listed at http://www.wellesley.edu/Chemistry/F...ixelfonts.html You can look and see how much better the text looks than mine. This is about to drive me nuts. Somebody please help me out.
