    Effective immediately, the PS2 will cost $199 in the United States, down from $299, while the first-generation PSX will sell for $49, down from $99. Prices for accessories and extra controllers will also be reduced, Sony said in a statement.

    Sony will also consider future price cuts on its game software, an executive said.

    i think i may buy a ps2 over ebay, now that the msrp is lower i should be able to get em for cheap!

    Awesome, I wuz waiting for a price drop, now I can afford the new PC I wanted and still get PS2 , also what have you heard about PS3?

    I thought Playstation2 have always been around £199 (to you $289)?

    Of course, I don't really follow game consoles. Long live PC....

    That's really good news. Hopefully Nintendo will follow suit and drop the GameCube price!

    I know Sony has a big plan for dropping PS2's price to welcome the new PS3. I believe it's a five year development.

    X... What? Box... ? Who?

    Only three years from september and it will be 5 years!!

    I remember I sold my PS1 for 280 right before it dropped down to the 199 mark. I wish I did that for my PS2, I really need an arcade stick.

    I just can't wait until the PS2 Network gets completed, preorder those broadband adapters. Who needs the CD player or the Memory Card Manager anyway?
