Only 300 credits? LanSite is worth more than that.
    I bid for 400 credits.

Lansite: how is your landscape/garden looking now?

Still looks like crap, thanks for askin'!

My landscaper thinks I'm nuts ~ My sis in law is trying to convince me to put in a virtual rainforest - my husband says Just put some sand down if you can't figure it out and I'm still trying to figure out wth I want ... Oh and someone (I think it's our other lawn guy) is trying to convince us to sod that shaded area (where grass won't grow) with St. Augustine (we have Bermuda) instead of extending the landscaping *sigh*... I did see these bricks around, though (the bricks that go around the edging - sort of wedge shaped <shrugs> Looked good in some of the pictures my landscaper showed me ... I have discovered, though I can extend my landscaping around the side of the house - put in a small magnolia tree, some burford (sp?) hollies and - maybe some birds of paradise ... as for the front, I'm still clueless - this has ended up being almost more trouble than it's worth ... I'm about to the point where I'm gonna tell the guy to 'just fix it, dammit' if I can't come up with something soon.

My biggest problem really is ~ It just doesn't matter a *whole* lot to me ... All these years since we've had the house built - I've been perfectly happy with what we have - the only reason I'm changing anything now is ~ the shrubs are dead and it looks bad ~ had the shrubs not died, I would've gone on and probably not changed a thing. I like minimal - I like low maintenance - I like green year round with no mess in my yard (leaves falling, etc)...

Wow ... sorry for ramblin' on ~ I guess it's startin' to bother me LOL

Yes I guess it is bothering you a lot!! My mother loves flowers and plants -- the backyard looks nice. If you want, I can take a pic on my digicam to give you some ideas? Maybe not the particular plants (I live in UK) but maybe the layout or similar plants..... up to you!
Post here if you want me to do that and I will do it as soon as I get back from Essex on Thursday (will check FK on Thurs night).

In the meantime, don't let gardens stress you out too much -- they are afterall supposed to be a place where you could relax in!

Lord, would you?! That would be great! I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what to put where without off balancing the house (I have a crackerbox shaped house - very square looking - very tall - brick columns in teh front - apparently just a real pain to landscape around ) I appreciate it, Tony, thanks!!! I'll look for your post on Thursday ...

Sorry, I was knackered when I got home last night:
    a) woke up at 6.30am
    b) gave a 15-mins presentation
    c) 1-hr interview
    d) 2-hr pychristic tests (3)
    e) Went home using 3 trains, took me almost 6-hrs.
    f) Checked out FK when I got home but too brain-tired to find where the "I don't get it!" thread!

Anyway, as promised, I took a few pics today and here is the link

Let us know how you went the "new" garden!

Tony, thank you so much! Beautiful garden you have there! And everything looks so healthy! <jealous>In the last picture (#12), what is that little bush (plant) in front of the bench?
And in the same picture, in the very back - the little bush with the white flowers?

I really appreciate the time you've taken for this

    No problem, dear.

The circled one? It is one of my favourites: Laurus Nobilis. They give off wonderful smell, almost lemony. Depending on how you want it, you can even push it to the limits and shape it if you want to.

As for the little bush with white flowers, I forget the name but I will ask my mother later.

For me, I also like the one with red and green leaves (name: Red Robin). When it is young, the leaves are beautifully red and the plant can grow up to 6meters. Very tough plant, can pass through frost etc. with no problems. [edit.. in pic#7 btw.../end edit]

Thank you for the comments. We are currently working on the grass (lawn), there are some bad bare patches because of too much rain and not enough sun -- damn moss came up.

I remember you said something about shade, e.g. no sun. Some plants like the ones in pic#8 (one against the wall not fence and one right in the corner). They hardly get sun but we had no complaints about these two.

From the pic, you have a big house, very nice house! How long have you lived there?

    best wishes

Lanny, a box style house with pillars...sounds like an old plantation house..cool! I have always liked those, when I move to California, it would be cool to move one of those in...but I don't think my neighbors would like it very well .

For your landscapping troubles, if all else failes just put in a pool and a tennis court, then I will come over and play tennis with ya.

Yes, the circled one was the one! <taking notes> Lemony fragrance - You know - I may plant that in front of the brick columns then - would be nice to walk out on teh porch to that smell ...

I did finally decide on hollies for the side corners ... and a gardenia plant/bush thing on the side ... I thought I was going to also plant a magnolia tree, but - it's gonna be sort of close to the house a/c units and on second thought, I don't think that will be such a good idea ... more holly, I guess? - (if nothing else, at least everything will be a nice dark green )

I also saw some <looking for notes> "super sun plum parfait"? - sort of looked nice ... and also something called "Hordeum Jubatum (foxtail barley) ~ I'm not a big fan of ornamental grass, but as weeds go - that's not a bad lookin' one

I feel for your grass problems - I know your pain ... I also know St. Augustine grows really well in shady areas! (though, it will sort of 'take over' the rest of the lawn unless you monitor it and keep it contained) ...

Thanks Our house looks bigger than it really is - we had it built about ... let's see - Jr was born in 92 - had 2nd b-day - that was October, built in Jan of that year so ... 8.5 years ago we had the house built ...

And again - I really appreciate you having done this!

<freaks out> Sssssshhhhhhssssshhhhh!!! Don't you know better than to mention a pool to Mr LanSite?!?! <looks around> Good gravy - he's been trying to talk me into a pool since we built this house! He says, "But we'd have a pool" ... I say "and our $350+ elec. bill would go up two fold!" LOL ... he wants one, I don't ... he'll probably get one As for the tennis court - no way - I could play tennis at the club, but don't - so I don't think I'd play tennis on my court ... now golf, on the other hand ...

As for the house - no, it's not really plantation style ... It's a big rectangle with brick columns (two story - don't ever buy one, they're a pain in the ass) ~ I really don't know what style that is - I just know it as home
