The problem is that about 10% of the time when a movie is loaded and your audio is streaming, the audio begins and will continue to stutter. If you stream your sound, you *will* encounter this bug, regardless of the size or content of your SWF. The framerate will drop to half and the player will eventually slow down and then no audio will be heard -- you have to restart the program.
If you haven't seen the bug, you haven't been testing enough -- try a Windows 2000/XP machine and burn your content onto CD to reproduce it quickly. It also happens from your hard drive or even right from the web so it will happen to everyone.
You definitely don't want your clients to see this -- once you get it, you're toast.
If you know a way around this bug, please post it so everyone can see.
Thanks.

Hi.
Can you point me to a sample of this?
Which Flash player are you using?

Hi -- I am using an MX projector file which I believe contains version 6.21 of the player. The problem also occurs with the Flash player in any browser which is 6.29 and fixed the original streaming issue. Unfortunately, this additional bug wasn't fixed.
I will try and see how to post a link such that everyone can see. However, it's extremely easy to reproduce with any movies you have. Just create many movies, and have each one chained to the next. Burn on a CD, start the first movie on Windows 2000,XP (any service pack), let it play, and boom! Once the movies are cached, you won't get it again until you eject the CD and the OS flushes the cache for that drive.

We are experiencing similar problems.
In our case though, so far we have only seen this on a CD: locally and the internet run versions are fine.
As in your case, we have a shell which runs successive .swf's in a kiosk mode. After the bug, usually when we jump menu, audio is restaured.

I have experienced this same bug and nearly pulled all remaining hair out of my head trying to solve the issue. I have sent my files to MM and they have duplicated the issue, so they do know about it. They have had the files about 3 weeks now, no work around or fix yet. I am crossing my fingers.

I´ve been affected by this bug also, sometimes my movie starts all over again.. hope there´s a patch soon..

just curious - does this bug still occur with the current beta player (6,0,39,0)?
-
never heard of it...where did you get it? We are talking about the standalone player here, is that what YOU are talking about? I believe the player for the web had a very similar problem, but has been fixed in the latest release which I believe was ver 6.xxx.29.

I use Flash on a daily basis as I work for a Multimedia/POST house...we have never experienced this problem and I develop on a Win2k Pro machine and also MAC G4's and G3's. I'd like to see a link to an example of this "bug" of which you speak.

You can get the source code for my main "shell" movie at http://techtrain.microchip.com/x/blankslate.fla which is the main movie that loads all the other external swf files. Sorry, I forgot to post the .exe file so you will have to create that yourself.
I zipped all the external swf files into one file that you can get at http://techtrain.microchip.com/x/allswfs.zip - it is 13Mb.
To make it work, create the .exe file and put it in any directory you want. From there, create a new directory called "newslides" and place all the swf files in there. Burn this structure onto a CD and let it run. I usually see the problem within 15 minutes. These are the same files that I sent to MM for them to hack on.

Hi Everyone,
You mention you have a beta player (6,0,39,0) -- that's 39, not 29, correct? Are you part of Macromedia's Beta Program? If it is not against any rules/NDA by MM, can you post the beta build somewhere? Or, if that's not possible, recompile AZFlasher's code that was posted with the new build and that can be tested instead.
Thanks!

This bug appears to have been fixed in r50 and can be downloaded from Macromedia's site.
Please test and confirm the problem cannot be reproduced.
Thanks!

Hi.
We just built a CD with r50 and the stuttering problem still exists.
What next?

Hi JB,
You still have the stuttering problem?! You've probably done this already, but can you check the version of the EXE that was generated and ensure it says r50. How did you publish? We haven't been able to get the problem -- not on a single machine, and we have many. Maybe your version is cached or something -- try rebooting and test again.
Please post your results again and thanks!

Hi.
Yes it's r50.
This is running off a CD (loading streaming mp3s from a CD into the projector). Have you tested that? It doesn't happen if you run locally from a hard drive. It also doesn't happen on our newer computers, but it is still happening on the older computers.

Hi there -- yes, our content has remained the same and we just republished and our testing remains within the same environment. We also added additional content to our CD and it too did not encounter any stuttering problems. We did notice a bug where the CPU shot to 100% and stayed there and you had end the task to regain control of the system. There were a few other crashes here and there, but not a single occurrence of the stuttering bug.
Have you noticed any change in behaviour with the new build r50, such as it works better on hard-drives, or the frequency of the stuttering problem is less/more? Any other problems/fixes?
Thanks.

We have been testing the 6.0.50 version all morning-sorry to say that we find the same thing as Jonathan_B...the problem still exists. We have one laptop running XP that seems to be the easiest to reproduce the problem. If we re-boot the machine inbetween tests, I think I can reproduce the stutter bug 100% of the time within 10 minutes. I tested it on several WIN2000 machines and it took much longer (several tries-about 60 minutes) but was finally able to make it happen. I rebooted inbetween each attempt to make sure that there was nothing in the cache and there was no issue with other applications. I am positive I have the 6.0.50 version on all machines. Sorry-I am as frustrated as anyone on this issue and we are looking at alternative solutions as I do not get a warm and fuzzy feeling from MM that they consider this problem to be anything other than a nuisance. If I hear anything else about this I will post it immediately.

We are working with a CD that has both audio and video that is called from the launched projector via load movie. The stuttering problem occurs on some machines, but not all though we haven't ascertained why it will happen on one machine and not another. If we bring all the media files into the FLA and do not use Load Movie this seems to help the problem, but it makes the FLA so huge that it becomes very difficult to work with (45 minutes to save and another 45 minutes to export the projector if Flash doesn't crash) and it requires over a gig of ram.
We have also seen the other problems you mention:
"We did notice a bug where the CPU shot to 100% and stayed there and you had end the task to regain control of the system. There were a few other crashes here and there..."
These are serious problems.
We have been telling people about the advantages of using Flash for CD projects, but this is just getting ridiculous. How can we tell clients to use a technology that has been broken since its release in March and has yet to be fixed? This is a very serious problem. Is it ever going to be fixed?
