Yes.. yes.. Flash Tools Beta 4 is ready..
The documentation required for such a release is not.. So I need some motivation/encouragement to write up what is clearly going to be quite a lot of text + one flash example .fla (said motivation would come from some saying they need it.. or want it)
Here is a list of some of the new features in the Beta..
- Write's text file's up to 10 variables on the command line..
- Now supports 4 features from the Shellexecute API the new one's are Explore and Edit (if a program has a default editor it will open in that editor.. and explore is just windows explorer)
- Supports up to 4 command line parameter's..
- Supports all of the available Windows display methods.. basically you can specify maxamize, minimize.. active, not active.. ect.
Things missing from the Beta:
- Well it's still not all in one executable.. (damn write program won't integrate.. yet)
- The newer features aren't as user friendly as was before.. this may require more thought on a nicer design or teaching all users command line syntax..
- The program still doesn't except spaces..
- Cdbrowse still only opens the directory it's in..
Also I did not get those examples I needed for the write tool.. so who knows if this text writer is useful or not..

I'd like to have a look at it...where can I find it?
Ta.

Hmm.. okay I heard your request.. I'll write up the documentation... for Beta 4
Though Flash Tools 3 won't open .avi files with command line parameters it can still open them in there default viewer.. (just not close them automatically

Well the link on webjump works fine.. but I am not getting anything from my own site..
I'd just have to say that my web server is acting funny.. if you can't download via webjump I'll email the program to you or place it on a 3rd server

I've never heard of it what do you use it for?
-
Opening files in there default applications.. for example if you wrote a Document file in Wordpad or notepad.. and placed that file on your desktop.. when you double click on your file that default viewer/editor is notepad or wordpad.. (my program does essientally the same thing via a Flash click)
This application just open's files in there default viewer through the flash executable and standalone .swf's (with the flashpla.exe)
If you want a better understanding of what it does.. I suggest you download it and look at it..

Cool so it's sort of like jtools
-
It's like JTOOLS except it's little better documented and a little harder to use.. (cause it's still in Beta)
-
I'm upping this thread.. because I've finally placed Flash Tools Beta 4 on a 2nd server..
By the way there is one little correction to my statement from 8-29-2000
Ftooltext supports 20 parameters for a text file.. not 10
The file is still 129 kb

I'm upping this thread due to a small bug..
It has come to my attention today that there is a bug in my program and or Word 2000
My program has problems with Word 2000 when using win9x (Windows 95, 98, ME) Windows 2000 and NT appear to be fine at this time..
While a file will open in Word 2000 when you go to close it.. the entire system will lockup.. and a period of a minute is required for Word to close.. or a Cntrl + Alt + Delete is required for a more immediate response.. (still takes about 20 seconds)
I have a lot of testing to do to resolve this issue but you should be aware of this problem.. until I have determined a proper fix.. (if any)
By my knowledge of programming this issue is not caused by my program but in fact the failure of Microsoft programmers to work with there own API process's (sounds dumb I know but that's my theory currently)
I will now be conducting a through test of Office 2000 products + all Service Releases and even Office 97
I will post here when I have knew knowledge..
Also while I'm at it..
In case your using my program and Flash 5 or you have questions about command line syntax I have given some good documentation in this thread (this was a possible error but was really just a small syntax problem)

I downloaded it and am going to try some things out with it with Flash 3 (Cuase I'm going to attempt to edit Swish Files).
I'll let you know if I have any probs.

Your program sounds interesting. Any chance you will tweak it up to provide similar "JAVI"
capabilities as the Jugglor/JTools for triggering .avi movies from within the Flash flick???
What would be AWESOME is to also trigger .mpg's for Flash/other stuff CD presentations
-
Shhh!
Master,
I downloaded Flashtools4, but the .exe's won't run. Am I missing something?
-
What's the exact problem?
Does the example.swf work?
What's your Operating System?
Also should the example.swf be fully functional (or not) you should try some command line syntax.. look at the end of this thread for info..

Yep I'm working on that now.. That's going to be the primary program in Beta 5.. A standalone movie player that will hopefully be allowed a flash skin for movie controls ect.
I currently have a functional Beta but it has not reached the purity that I want for the program
The last thing I'm going to try do with this movie program is actually detect codecs and try and run installs of codecs if they aren't installed (silent installs)

I'm afraid it doesn't work for me either. I'm using Windows 2000. The SWF doesn't work at all, so I brought the FLA into Flash5 and created a projector file. Finally the browse CD option worked, though it landed me not at the CD, but in the program directory of FMEdit98 (an explorer-like program that I prefer to Windows Explorer), though that's probably an error specific to my system. However, nothing else worked. I also brought the FLA into Flash4 and tried the same thing to no avail--now the browse CD wouldn't even do anything.

This program was made in Windows 2000, it has no flaws (except that DDE thing with Office 2000) and is just pure command line access to the Shellexecute API
I'm going to refer you to this thread.. where I gave monkeypants some advice on using the program.. (he never replied if it worked or not but I assume it did)
http://board.flashkit.com/board/show...threadid=73150
The cdrom browse is meant to open the directory's it's in.. so if you place my program on the root of the cdrom then it will open the cdrive..
Lastly, my program will import fine in Flash 5 but if your ready to do your own coding for my program.. (name your own files, and directories ect.) then you should refer to this thread where I talk about the changes in Flash 5 syntax.. http://www.flashkit.com/board/showth...threadid=46319

Get Motivated!!! It would be EXTREMELY helpful to include any visuals in a very SIMPLE
step-by-step (preferably numbered) procedural guide. Thanks!
