Hey everyone. Still working on the bits and pieces, but I've finally gotten my character "Beppo: The Wonder Pug" modeled in glorious 3D (hey, it was tough for me!). I'm still having some skinning problems, particularly with the arms, and animation loop is a pretty rough in general. But, I thought I'd post it up for you guys to check out anyway.
First, here's what the 2D Beppo looked like:

No cape yet, but I'm reading up on cloth physics. I'm so psyched about all this! Just the though of being able to create fight scenes by animating the 3D model's IK is enough to get me VERY excited.

Lookin' good, KingJoe.

Hey, thanks guys.
It actually is real 3D, I modeled and animated the character in 3ds max and then exported and toon shaded him with good ol' Swift 3D. I used flat shading with no shadow or highlights to get it to look really cartoony so that it will intergrate well with the rest of my mainly 2d toon. I'll probably turn shadows on when I export the final animations for my toon, which will give it a little more dimensionality but still keep basic toony look.
Now if I could just get that "Flex" modifier to work. It could do wonders on this fatty!

oh ok... did u do it with only 1 color cartoon shading?? it's too flat dude, didn't look 3D enough... use at least average color...
hahhaa good luck with your fatty super dog...

lookin' good
i'd love to see some more renders when you get them available!
i would also say to experiment with some average color fills to get a more realistic 3d look!
are you using our max plug-in or the standalone???

King Joe I like'm but one thing. Can you make his mouth more defined. Since it's a half sphere I thought from the front view his his mouth was always open.
Perhaps if it was a shade lighter or you seperated it and gave him more of a muppet mouth. Probably the easiest solution.

I agree that the mouth definately needs some work, but in every other respect this is very good stuff. I wouldn't worry bout the lack of 3d effect, especially if as you say the character needs to blend with a 2d bg. The movement is great.
I can't help wondering what the special ability of this super-hero is? Something to do with donuts maybe?
