I have been working as a freelance flash designer/developer and 3D modeler for the past few months and a company wants to give me a full time position. I am not new to the indusrty, but am new to the "getting paid" part.

My job description would be to create the front-end (clientside) web space for a backend system they have already created. I would be working solo or with another web designer creating the layouts/design, coding the html and connecting the two environments (Flash might be involved).

How much should someone get paid to do this? In Canadian dollars I think they should pay me at least $20 an hour.

    What do you think?
How much did you get paid starting out?

If it helps, please look at sites I have created to get an idea of my skill levels. (www.shiftback.com)

Yeah, the biggest problem with Salary Expert is they don't give desicriptions of every job title so you can match up to the closest one. http://www.salary.com does a much better job of that, but unfortunately does not cover Canada. You might try salary.com and just see if it helps you match up the job titles/descriptions to what you are doing.

Then just decide where you think you should be compared to "average" based on a combination of your experience, your ability, and the companies ability to pay you.

Salary.com was not much help either. Do you think these salaries have been inflated? They seem a little high don't you think?

No one wants to share what their salary is/was?

Enstent, Just stumbled on your post doing a search. If you're still intereted...
    I'm also in Toronto:

Base Salary $50,000 Plus annual bonus ($1,000 - $10,000 depending on how often they catch you sleeping at your desk during the year)

    Job Description: Interactive Developer
    *Expert Actionscript
    *Expert Flash
    *Intermediate Lingo/Director
    *Project Management
*OK at design but not great
*And a few other filler skills (I just finished 18hours of powerpoint...CRAP!!)

I did some research on salary survey sites before negotiating my salary and I feel they may be inflated a bit. I think my company may be a bit low for their fulltime employees. For freelancers I've seen people come in and do very basic work and get $35/hour for extended contracts, so freelance work seems to be ok.

Good Luck, I hope this helps.

Holy cow! That's my year's sum total of Powerpoint experience, and I'm only talking about the stupid Powerpoint slideshows my buddies send to me.

    Corporate life, eh?

Stand by for emergency synapse rerouting
