    Hi,

I am new to this video business and I was wondering if someone could walk me through the process.

I have my movie in Final Cut Pro 3, it's 6mins.
I know I have to export it , then take it into sorenson, but I'm unsure what the best method/format.

should I export it as DV first? Or uncompressed QT?
then take it into sorenson, what are the best settings? Or the settings that you'd recommend?

the .mov that I have is 318MB!!!
    That's huge!

    any advice would be appreciated.

The general rule in compressing images of any kind including video is compress only once. That means big heavy files till the last step. Dont worry about that 318MB it will drop down considerably by the time you are done.

If you look through the flash video board you will see a link has been posted for a little tutorial on sorenson squeeze. That may help you get started. The idea is to minimize key frames as much as possible. Heavy action means more key frames than a sitting talking person you have to find the balance
    through testing.

We often start with 400MB files bringing them down to under 4MB so just keep pushing forward your right where you should be.

    good luck

is there a fix to the memory error for macs on importing to
    flashmx?
cos i havent been able to find one and so if we want to import into flashmx we have to do a "precompress".
thanks for any info on it

Im not familiar with mx but earlier versions of flash have always been memory hogs as well. How much memory have you alloted to mx thus far?

    Hi.
What version of Mac OS are you running. If you are running a version previous to OSX you will need to allocate enough RAM to your Flash MX to bring in the the video file (you will need more RAM than the size of the video file). So you may want to compress your video down a bit first. OSX handles memory allocation automatically.

How big is the file you are working with and how much ram are you allocating.?

...but anyway it Sounds like most people are compressing with squeeze rather than mx
    for quality reasons.

I would be interested however in knowing what the (if any) size limitations for a squeeze
compressed clip are- when embeding into a mx movie.

    Secondsign,

Sorensen pro, I'm using flash 5.

    Whiterabbit,

Thanks for the info. It's good to know I am on the right track.

I've found cleaner 5 to work a little better than squeeze. But I am a novice, I reserve the right to change my mind.

problem with using squeeze is that then you can have any scriptin the movie itelf.
which can be solved yes by talking to it from the timeline.
Did a bot of testin recently between MX and sorenson pro,
at times really couldnt see a lot of different
Dont know bout any limits on the size of a soresnon ,swf.
cos you dont actually embedd it into your movie as such, you load it in to mainline via load movie whih is not same as embedding..
