I don't really play any now, but I played one a while back (before they began charging $$ for it)... called Planetarion. It was pretty darn cool. Did anyone on here ever play Planetarion?

Basically you were a planet in a galaxy with 24 other planets, and you built up a fleet of ships and did research on certain things so you could build certain buildings and ships, then when you needed resources (often).. you attack other Galaxies and try to steal their asteroids, which you mined for resources. With all the alliances and whatnot, it was pretty cool whenever you'd organize a huge attack on a huge galaxy.

I don't play online much, games like quake, counter-strike, etc are too random and chaotic for me, I like the idea of teams working together, rather than just running at each other like headless chicken. And games take a lot of planning and strategy take up too much time (used to love red alert and total annihilation though).

The only game I play online at the moment is Americas Army, which is an online only game released by the american army as a recruitment tool! They spent $7m on this thing and they're releasing it in parts, more maps, weapons etc as time goes by. The emphasis in the game is on realism and it excels at this, one shot and you're down usually. The graphics are excellent and there's lots of servers to play on. The games are all team based and people actually work in a team, you can use hand signals and stuff like that to communicate.

best thiong about it is that it's free!

Concerning Counter-strike. It is team based and can be very very team oriented depending on the people you play with.

    concerning America's Army..... subliminal messages

    concerning civ3.... good bye productivity.

I almost forgot... occasionally at FlyorDie.com i'll play some 9-Ball. And I play on MSN's The Zone for Hearts and Spades sometimes.

BUT, if you aren't talking about games that are just on websites... but games that are on CD and can be played online as well... then yes, I play Diablo II online. It is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better than solo player. No new animations are levels or anything, but you can work in a group of people, you can trade items (making it easier to acquire things of importance rather than a random item you may find 5 or 6 times in solo-player), or you can play it for duels and fight with other people's characters. Diablo II is a blast!

unless you join a 'clan' - which sucks up as much time as rts games - counter-strike is as chaotic as quake arena unfortunately. Americas Army compels people to work together though, otherwise you all die very quickly. The hand signals are cool, and all commands can be voiced or whispered, if someone else if nearby the can hear you.

and I'm really not about to go out and join the army, not that they would have me either way.

    http://www.americasarmy.com

one weird thing about it is that no matter what side you're on (defense or assault) the opposing force always looks like an enemy and you always look like the army, so you may have an M4 but an opposing soldier will see it as an AK47 for example.
