Anybody had a go at this? Or employed/hired somebody to do it for them?

How's everybody getting their business in?

With difficulty. The market's flat, the business is loaded with half-arsed wanna-be's - matter 'o fact, here; take my seat.

    - Jane, get me off of this crazy thing.

this is a gross generalization of my corner of the world. If things happen to be different for you in your corner of the world - well, send me a postcard.

Yup, similar here. To the point where I'm now specialising in other fields, having web design/development as a useful bonus.

Other fields as in related or non-related?

(if you don't mind me asking)

    Both, actually.

I'm concentrating on developing games in flash. I used to work as a marekting consultant, so I'm doing that on a contract basis as well.

Love the easy to use smiley interface, btw. New look forums are growing on me.

Same here. Generating new business is hard and existing clients have scaled back their budgets. My general opinion is the money isn't there right now, regardless of your skill level.

I think something a lot of peeps miss sometimes is return work. If you do a site for someone, offer to reduce the initial price of designing the site for some sort of long term or short term contract to do all print and other media work they need. It saves them on having to develop menus, brochures, ads, banners, fliers etc. themselves or finding someone else to do something you as a designer can do, and they already approve of your work so there ya go.

Just make sure you get it IN WRITING for at least six months.
