    Using MSN? ... kiss your pop3 service goodbye.

    With their new email procedures, MSN seems to have done away with pop3 email, forcing users to use MSN's web based system.

    This is no problem if you only use you MSN email, but if you have a third party email service (like on your domain) you can no longer send email without going through MSN's web based service.

    I spoke with several customer service reps at MSN, and they all had the same basic message.... "Well I guess that's just tough s**t for you... isnt it?!"

    Next week I will have the pleasure of calling each of my clients and asking them what ISP they are using to handle their email, and informing some of them that they'll need to make a change if they want to continue sending mail through their sites. Thanks a bunch MSN.

    I encourage anyone else affected by this to shoot off a nasty email to the idiots over at MSN.

    Just use Outlook. It can handel POP3 and HTTP (i.e. Hotmail), plus other services.

    I thought you had to pay for POP3 email using hotmail when you want it to d/l to your outlook? I only use hotmail for the Messanger login, I've been with yahoo! mail for about 5 years now and it's been fine.

    If you want a MSN Messenger account without hotmail, use www.passport.com and get a Passport account - so you can use your normal e-mail.

    I use it, have a looky on your contact list - I am online at the mo.



    And using Hotmail in Outlook and Express is free.

    Yes... you can use MSN's web-based mail through outlook (msn no longer offers pop3 email on their dial-up service... according to MSN tech support), but when you send mail or reply to mail, you are forced to use your MSN email address.

    This is all well and good for personal email, but what about business emails? If someone sends mail to you at [email protected] you can receive it, but when you reply the message comes from [email protected], which is both confusing an unprofessional.

    Then there's the issue of hotmail's downtime... also a problem for businesses.
