    Incredible

    http://www.wininformant.com/Articles...rticleID=27012

Once again...despite gloomy forecasts from everyone...Microsoft beats expectations.

I figured that they'd have a hard time selling XP but it looks like they more than succeeded.

easy for them, they force the sale...

you bought a PC in the last 10-12 months ? if so, chances are that XP was already installed when you purchaced your machine... of course you're not going to re-format... you are going to at least try it a little... then you're going to get used to it... they even made a Office XP, just for you ... if you're lucky your new PC (with XP installed) wont crash in a while, meaning you'll start liking it...

unlucky ? damn, crash, boom ! what you're going to do ? install an older version of Windows or go to store and buy yourself a copy of this new XP that you somehow started to like ?.... hey, the desktop theme is beautiful, isnt it ? and hey, you can even create a lots of different users, with their own desktop and all (was possible few years ago, remember, NT ?)... lucky you

funny thing, when you think about it, you're not doing more or faster or better (etc.) than when you were using 98, Me or 2K...

went to a friend last week, installed XP (he wanted the newer, improved versin of windows of course), when finished, and finished explaining the new tools and all, coming with XP, i watched him play with his little mouse and keyboard... what was he doing ? the exact same thing he was doing with his "late" windows 95 system...

Dude...it was the same with Windows 95/98/ME/2000

This one beat all previous records though.

There are also people like me who have purchased 4 copies of windows xp...I've never bought that many copies of any of its predecessors.

    It's just a good OS.

Of course he is going to do the same thing he did with windows 95. The point is...it should be a little easier now.

But there are many more comps being sold now.

Personally, I don't know anyone (besides me) in any trade that's running XP, or had their admin recommend it. I'm actually using it, but only because I need windows for very few things, and if it crashes it's no biggy.

Well for most things w2k is just dandy...well make that all things.

But for those who don't have W2K pro...XP Pro is a good option.

BTW, installed Red Hat 8 this morning on my other system...it's gorgeous. They REALLY made some great improvements this time.

Is it as user friendly as they are claiming?

So far so good...much better than anything else I've used as far as linux. (Mandrake, Lycoris)

Just doesn't have that extremely busy feel of mandrake, and that half-baked, buggy feel of lycoris.

    I'm giving it high marks.

Love all the clean lines and pleasing colors.

a lot of tech companies are better expectations with results... intel, nokia and others. Maybe the tech sector is finally picking up despite a (understandably) pessimistic stock market.

and remember, as I said last week when these results were first posted, MS has over $32bn in 'cash', they've always been in a very strong position, share price withstanding.

I've only heard bad things, especially regarding the new RH desktop - customized KDE or something like that - but those are from people that have been diehards since 97 or so. They're anticipating the next release to come with an icon for 50,000 free hours of AOL on the desktop.

I get my comp copy of KRUD next month, so I'll check it out then, but I installed Debian on a laptop last week, in case I decide to switch.

I think Linux is still considered the fastest growing OS in the world though. M$ better start fudging

LOL..that'd be terrible to see an AOL icon.

I don't think that is the direction they took...they just moved closer to an OS that anyone would want to use.
