Help...I blew it!
I created a whole website in KM, and now it's too big. It takes way to long to load, even with a preloader. Is there a way for me to break it up into smaller movies now that it's already done? Or, are there any other suggestions? Help is appreciated!

First of all,you must try a Flash compressor (SWF5 ---> SWF6 + zlib).
We'll see after...

Use Play > SWF File statistics to see how the size breaks down. Sound and bitmap size problems can be fixed. Did you use symbols where you can? A preloader doesn't solve a size problem -- it just entertains people while they wait.

Where do I get these SWF compressors?
My file size is 0 sound, 600kb JPEG, and 42kb vector.

http://www.flash2be.com/
That is where you get a flash 5 to 6 convertor.

Why is the jpeg so huge? That is the problem to solve. The compressor may not help because the jpeg is already compressed.

I have a similar problem with a site that will be about 1 meg when done. I can compress the swf with the software that you mentioned in this thread, but can say, three or four swf files be lined up to stream? So that swf1 plays after loading, then swf2 loads while swf1 plays, and so on? Or would this cause problems with some browsers.
I feel like I blew it myself but I'll be damned if I fail.

Any programming language is at its best before it is implemented and used.

I found my answer using the search engine. I am not thinking today.

Bob,
After I saw the stats I was also wondering why the JPEGS were so big. I compress all my pics before I put them in KM and set the quality at 100%in KM. When I look at the files on my hard drive in the pics folder the total is about 200KB, but KM says they are 600KB. Should I just forget about compressing my pics before I insert them in KM and then let KM compress them? I want the best quality/small file size ratio.
Also, if I use this swf compression tool that has been suggested, the end user who wants to see the website will need to have the Flash 6 player installed. Is that correct? If so, it seems like that really limits the number of users who can view the site.
Thanks for the help!

After redoing my photos, my website made with KM is now 258KB. It still loads too slowly for a 56k modem. Can someone tell me how to break down my website into smaller pieces and daisy chain them together, even though it's already completed? I've tried to cut and paste into a new KM movie, but that doesn't work.

-> The KM quality factor is the final compression. That is why the swf is so big. Jpegs are expanded to bmps and then compressed again as jpegs when exported to swf.

-> Yes
