250 is a bit skimpy, I truly suggest on getting at least 300... that really comes to play when you are doing multiple tasks - printing, burning a CD, and have a heavy load on the CPU.

and markp's right. it matters on the motherboard. but truth be told... I say go with the DDR memory. SDRAM on a P4 is a sureshot way to underutlize your CPU.

    my 2 cents...

Upgraded my PC from PIII450 to AMD XP1600+ -- new motherboard, new RAM (DDRAM this time), new heatsink but everything else is untouched (see my footer for PC spec for further info).

Still use 250watts -- someone said I should use at least 300watts for AMD1600+ while another guy says 250watts is ok.

Though personal experience, DDR RAM is great stuff. SDRAM will discontinue in a few years so I would suggest you go for DDRRAM if you which to utilise your CPU power to the limit.
As for the watts... wellllllll mine seems to be ok.

In any case, if you are unsure, you may buy a 300watt VP (or something) which comes with fan and replace your existing one. It only costs £20-£30.

    It is up to you.

warning note: dont go inside a powersupply if you have no idea what you are doing. there are currents which can kill you, no joke. serious dont do it.
