starting your own company 101
i like how everyones first site always seems to be a "company" it kills me. with the standard "portfolio" "prices" "about us" "company overview" and if they are good enough at editing flas from the flashkit movie section, a "conact" page.
im not saying thats not what i did on my first site, cause i did.
[ http://www.no-tec.com/old ] anyway. but what else would A FIRST site contain? i dont know. what?

I think cause most people think they need to look like an insustructure for people to take them seriously. BUT eventually you have to talk 1-on-1 with people and then any fasle image would be shattered when you have your mom yelling at you do take out the dog while talking to a client.
I think once people are comfortable with being individualized and critisized on a personal level they loose that.
Besides most poeople take out clients with the sole purpose of using and open source flash to do their work, they can get concept done quite quickly because all the work is half done.
But that's human nature.. i have a buddy who does carpentry and he answers the phone "Hoffmann Construction" he's one guy with a truck.

Good question. But look at the majority of non-retail Websites out there: Most have some variation of these pages.
I personally think that this is the way it is because it's a good way of catagorizing your information: Everybody who surfs
the 'net will understand this format, and obviously it's always a good idea to design w the customer in mind. This
also establishes a sort of 'rapport' w them, too, and they (hopefully) will trust you more as they learn more about you.
But I do hear where you're coming from: From a designer's perspective, it seems frightfully repetitious.
Just a couple of my thoughts...
FYI :: DSL, IE 6, Win Me, 1280 x 1024
Hoping for PowerBook G4
