Its no Gran Turismo...
I've been working on several racing simulation games, and this one is the only one that seems to be working right...
http://reversemonster.com/Movie1.swf
It's not done at all, I just need some feedback on how it's looking/performing.
The controls are:
Up/Down: Accel/Decel
Left/Right: Turn
Enter: Shift Up
Shift: Shift Down
Sorry, no Automatic Transmission...
Thanks.

Works well....
I suggest you work on the collision, but the whole manual gearing is a wicked idea! It's gonna be great!
Well done and Good Luck!

an idea
I wonder why no one has attempted to make a gime similar to, for instance, Top Gear for SNES. I think it would be fairly simple to do something like that in Flash.
Mr. T thinks its a good idea.

Well I don't know what goes into making a 2D game appear 3d like Top Gear did... I suppose it can't be that hard, but I didn't really like the graphics of TG, even though I loved to play it.
Actually I wish I could've made this game with a 3D engine (not using flash at all) so it would be more like Gran Turismo and real car physics could be used such as weight transfer, among other things.
With my knowledge this is almost the best I could make... There's another one in progress which incorporates many more variables that make the cars more realistic. Probably won't see it how I want it for a long time, though.
Thanks for all the replies, I'll be sure to stay motivated on this game!

Top gear are Ideal racing games for flash, but they would be very, very hard to make. Games similar to that HAVE been attempted before, I've seen many of them complete, but top gear games were(are) something else. If you analyze Top Gear, you'll notice that it has paralax scrolling, not to mention many, quite a few, more like a ton of different road images. It also blends these in with nice controlling, like if I am turning, the car will swing to that side of the road. They would be hard to make imo

I always found top gear to be a little unrealistic with it's turning. Even if you slowed down going through a corner and down-shifted, you were still on the same path and would hit the wall anyway. The way to win that game was to enter the corner at the right angle and speed, but with real racing, the best time to shift gears is in the middle of the turn, so your wheels will spin faster and push you out of it, also allowing your car to turn a little bit sharper.
I tried to emulate that with my game.

Hmmm...
Would be cool to attempt. Maybe I'll give it a try and fix the physics bugs :P
