    Just saying hi!

    Hi everyone!

I'm pretty new to Flash. I'm on a Graphic Design course in the UK, and have decided that I want to learn Flash quite seriously.

I've bought some books, and am busy learning from them (better then annoying everyone on the forum by asking stupid questions).

I have this dream of making an interactive animation website, along the line of Homestarrunner.com , but with completely different content, using characters I've been developing for the last 7 years. I decided I wanted to take my hobby one step further and make a flash site using my characters. I discovered Homestarrunner.com after I chose to make an animation site, but have only recently begun designing my website.

I've been using flash 5 at Uni, but I want to learn flash MX, my trial is running out, and I have decided to buy a full licence rather then a student licence. This is because I don't think its good to put money toward a student licence, which you can't use to publish or sell the work you've made with, you also can't upgrade it to the full version, or continue to use after you complete your course, which makes it a waste of money!

Anyone know of any special offers for Flash MX or Studio MX for people living in the UK (full licence, not student licence), I noticed that on the US site you can get a $100 rebate(on Flash or Studio MX i think), anyone know of any similar offers for UK residents?

Thanks for reading, I hope to visit here often, chat, encourage and critique etc. eventually I hope to have some animations to show you all! (might be a while though, still learning Flash)

The academic version is fully functional. There are only 2 differences:
1: Academic says Educational Version on the splash screen.
2: The academic license doesn't allow you to make any money using the product. It can only be used for learning and personal things.

I actually own both versions. I bought the Academic for school and then the Full version when I started my web design company. They work the same.

The education version has all the functionality of the full version, but you can only use if for learning.

The reason I want to get the Full version now is because I'll end up having to buy it after I finish the course because the Education version is only legally supposed to be used by students, and after you finish the course you're no longer a student so have no right to use the software (I think it says this somewhere on the Macromedia site).

I don't think that is right. You must be a student to purchase the academic version. After you are done with school, I am 99% positive that you can still legally use the academic version as long as it isn't for commercial purposes.
