Question about Spyware
This crap is really aggravating me. I use Kazaa Lite (but let's not get into the whole file-sharing crap), and I know it doesn't install SpyWare on my machine. However, I've been getting millions of popups recently, that only launch when I open Internet Explorer. I've used Lavasoft Ad-Aware and SpyBot, but nothing seems to get rid of it. It brings up CyDoor, Gator, and AdSave. I remove the components every time, but they just keep coming back.
Please, I only want advice; I don't need somebody to come in here and lecture me about file-sharing. It's perfectly legal.

File-sharing all the way!
Now, lets not get offended at this question, but do you visit porn?
Also, I don't know about this, but have you tried clearing cookies? it's worth a shot.

Nah dude, wasn't pointing out that spelling mistake. Didn't even notice it. I was saying I don't visit porn. Use your imagination.

Have u tried updating Spybot, and then running it? Also what kind of pop ups are u getting?
If you running a NT OS, you can look at the tast manager, and see if anything 'funny' is running.. maybe a application is running in the background that you didn't start up.. u can look at the Task manager by hitting alt-ctrl-del look at the processes. First I would try updating Spybot though.. i know if u just download and run it, you'll be missing some of the newer stuff.

I had something like this a week ago it was a program called inet delivery. Adaware and spybot S&D don't detect it. Do a control alt del
And look for idel.exe or indel.exe or something like that. If it's not that look for something similar.
You probably have a spyware prefetch (.pf) installed, most programs like adaware don't remove these because other prefetch files are critical to your machine running smoothly.
So this is the new type of spyware.

Hrm. Thanks for the advice flip. Don't see that in task manager, but there is a program called urlmap.exe. Anybody know what it is?

The file will only show up in the taskmanager when the popsup are being displayed. However urlmap.exe sounds like spyware.
Search for the file then check it's properties. If it was installed recently (or around the time the problem started) or if it doesn't appear to something that should be there it should be a safe delete.
You can also check google for it also to find out more.

Kazaa installs an ad program called save.exe which isn't detected by spyware (at least on my system). Look for that in the task manager and disable it on startup.

URLMAP is a program which gets installed with all versions of Microsoft Money 2002. URLMAP runs in the background and works with Internet Explorer and the MoneySide applet from Microsoft Money. URLMAP monitors the web pages you visit and if you come to a page with financial information which may be relevant to the sort of personal financial information you keep in Microsoft Money, URLMAP then brings up the MoneySide toolbar which enables you to access, from within Internet Explorer, data that you keep in Microsoft Money.
Recommendation :
This is a matter of personal preference. If you want to disable MoneySide, and URLMAP in the process, start MoneySide by clicking the MoneySide icon in Internet Explorer, then go to the "Help \ Settings" menu option, then choose Never under Open MoneySide (you can always start MoneySide manually).
Do you have MS Money installed?

If you read Kazaa user agreement it says it installs urlmap with it.

when kazza got insalled on my system i also noticed this. specifically, it was only when google.com was in the browser, not when IE started. lots of people started to complain to google that thier site is using popups. google obviously doesnt use popup advertisements, it was all the spyware's doing.
using ctrl+alt+del usually wont expose spyware, they like to hide themselves. windows ctrl+alt+del doesnt show all its running processes for obvious reasons (eg.KERNEL32.dll - what would happen if you tried killing this thread? lol). i use prcview to get process info, and then hunt down the rogue thread. find the file path, and then delete the file or go though msconfig and stop it on bootup.
but for kazza im pretty shure Adaware would have covered all its spyware, what with it being so popular n all

Kazaa lite is a solid app but how about Emule? does anyone use it and or like it better than Kazaa lite?

Kazaa Lite (sometimes called 'K-Lite') is a Peer-to-Peer File Sharing application that does not contain any 'Spyware'. In actual fact, it is a modified version of the very popular Kazaa Media Desktop (often called the 'Original Kazaa' or 'KMD'), which is made by Sharman Networks. Both programs are very similar, with almost identical features and appearance. The main difference is that Kazaa Lite has been modified so that it does not have any of the so-called 'Spyware' and 'Adware' that comes with the Original Kazaa.
