Ok, so I'm redeveloping a site (because it looks horrid) and my client has asked me to do it in a way that the search engines can get in and pick up the info.

Um, isn't that what metatags are for?

I'm only doing the flash for this site... I won't be scripting it to put it on the web.

Am I missing something here?

meta tags are now ignored by the bigger search engines as the were used for spamming. They also can not pick up anything in flash files, so you had better have some text in that site outside of the flash files if you plan on search engines picling up on it.

Hey! weilerino

Do this, create a dynamic text area, embed it into a movie clip, give both some instance names and then load data directly from text files, On click of this button, load this text file. This way, you would have everything in flash and easy to update.

This whole process is called content management system. CMS, i think U know or I'm sure, someone will comment on this post.

Ok so load the data from the text files. When ever a web spider or your search engine searches your site, it also looks at the text files and chances of displaying data are increases. Never depend on flash, that search engine might search your flash file and give the output.

Few Metatags, Image Maps, Flash Animations are excluded from the search engine as of now. Many more have been excluded, but what is the use posting all of them here. Posting only the usefull stuff is good.

Do this thing. Follow this process. I think you might get it.

google can not read flash files

the googlebot will only find those text files if there are anchor tags pointing to them

googlebot will also ignore comment tags as it is looking for content that the visitor to the site can see.

The only thing that it will find of any relevence on a flash only page (the body tag consists of only the flash embedding tags) is the title of the web page. No content of the flash file will be seen.

Believe me, this will work.

And also do this, Google has an option of "Open Directory Project" this is from where all your searches normally begin. This was actually an idea of Netscape adapted and conceived and brought into existance by Google! Kudos to Google!.

Ok, here what you do is you insert all the details and keywords related to your thing. So, the better the keywords, the better your thing is searched. Also remember to include your keyword every now and then in your documents.

This helps in maintaining the top position for your thing in the charts.
