In the medical knowledge section some of the drop downs arent long enough to fit the content.

The picture inthe top left of each content should blend more, they kinda stick out a lot as it is.

nice site, good for a medical knowledge page, fitting place for the flash menu and the html body... colors dont hurt my eyes so cant complain there... hes right, nice inbetweens... keep it up.

good point about the drop downs in the medical knowledge section. is there any solution you or anyone else can think of short of making the subnav width larger to make the drop downs large enough to encapsulate the text?

just had a look.
The top area looks good. Not sure why with each section of the site it all disappears then reloads. Would be much smoother if just the various images loaded up and the borders and menu choices stayed still.

i wanted to get away from a frames-based site, which has some browser compatibility problems and many experts (i.e.- w3c) are now saying is on the out. as best i know, what you describe would require this. i started out with a frames-based one and switched to this php-driven site. you're right tho, it would be nice to have the menu items stay put. if anyone has a suggestion on how to do this while staying away from frames, i'd be interested to hear it.

a friend of mine just pointed out that skyworks site to me yesterday. i wasn't thinking about it when designing it, but when he showed me i recognized seeing it several months ago. i like the skyworks design, and i'm sure it came thru when i did this design, although it was not my intention to mimick it. besides the off-white with the circles texture, it is different, would you agree? i did feel a bit bad about this when my friend showed this to me yesterday.

If you look at the Html you will find this code at the beginning of each drop down

<TD vAlign=top align=middle><SELECT class=dropDown
style="WIDTH: 125px; HEIGHT: 18px"
onchange="window.open(this.options[this.selectedIndex].value,'_self');"

just change the 125px to the size you need to fit all the text on, i would have said about 175px would be about right, but just keep playing until its perfect.

You will need to edit this value for each drop down, if you have a problem i will do it for you.

I think the movement on the skyworks site on the top menu is so smooth you hardly notice it, other than you think it's meant to happen. Maybe on your site, moving each menu item then bringing in the rest puts in a kindof gap that, at the moment, seems a little jumpy.

alexasigno, thanks for the suggestion but unfortunately it doesn't work. my subnav section is only 125 px wide, so i can't go beyond this without messing up my tables (the main content gets shifted over to the right if i change it to over 125).

thank you for your replies. i agree that the interface has similarities appearance-wise. i actually started out with below idea for an interface, but they thought it was too dark and too masculine with sharp columns. So i softened it to its present form. Other than that, this site is not frames based, has a splash page, detects for flash differently, detects monitor color depth and displays alt content (also taking into consideration if flash 6 is onboard or not), has a built in small CMS, has a different body architecture, a bridge theme (not clouds), and many more differences than similarities to that skyworks site. i think people may be having a hard time getting over the one main similarity: the off-white with dots. if you can get past this, i would appreciate some real criticism (useability and style). already the feedback here (besides the last 2 posts) has been good and i have taken many new ideas from them (even if i couldn't address the actual post

if you feel the need to put me down comparing this more to the skyworks site, please feel free to go ahead and do so. i'm not going to tell you not to post that stuff here. but just know it is not helpful to me and only hurts my feelings. thanks.

My intent was not to injure your emotions
in any way. I was pointing out the
similarities between the two concepts.

But the site is decent nonetheless.
I especially liked the splash page.




However, be forewarned.
Many people will consider it a
complete rip of Skyworks. Almost all
designers feel strongly about rips and are
impelled to express their concern.
