DID you know Utah beer vs. other states
I wanted to let you guys know that Utah beeer sucks!! 3.2 % of alcohlol (sorry Spelling)
other states around 6.2 %
Alot of you may not know this, Utah beer is under the amount of alcohlol (soory I donb't know how to spell this) of other states
I have had a few beers of Cali beer and Wyoming beer and it is great compared to theis watered down stuff we have here.
and this insn't a PWD post hehe!!!

it varies from state to state... I think SC disallows 5.x percent, unless it's labeled as malt liquor or import.
I got some great german beer right now. about 8.x% or so

If you want really really good American micro brew (that also happens to have a high alcohol content as luck would have it check out Dogfish Head
It is from Deleware..I think they only ship out to a handfull of close by states (Im in PA so I am one of the lucky ones)...but their beers are usually 7% and up (With their seasonal- very limited availabitly 120 Minute IPA coming in at 21% ABV)
Oh and also the Worldwide stout that comes in at 23.04% ABV ( I just found out about this tonite!)
Damn good stuff and if you are a true beer drinker you NEED to check their beers out..I am currently working on a case of Punkin Ale "A full-bodied, spiced brown ale brewed with real pumpkins,cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar.
7.0 % ABV
Delicious 
Oh and as a side note..the 120 Minute IPA costs $125 a case, so start saving now!

You gotta watch out, higher alcohol content doesn't necessarily mean better beer. There’s a certain limit it can get up to (around 7% I think) before it starts tasting more like some kind of bastardised wine than beer.
Around 5-6% is ideal from my many samplings of beers around the world.
And IMO Germany and the Czech Republic make the best beer by far... I found that any of the half decent beers in the States (which were almost always the local stuff or the microbrewers) could trace their origins to German immigrants or similar...

I didn't say higher alcohol makes a better beer..I just said it was a nice bonus 
Seriously though, Dogfish Head beer is like a fine (in your words) wine...It is not your father's microbrew...

and california has crap beer theres a few good micro brews like Mendicino County brew and Humbolt County brew and maybee one more but besides that cali beer is just the same old Corona, MGD, Budweiser, and Coors.
We do have our cheap beers that taste like crap but get you sloppy drunk like 8mm, King Cobra, amd OE but thats if you just want to chug a few 40s and get waisted.

If so, that stuff is the bomb...haven't had that since since like '96.....Wow!!!!!! That brings back memories... 
Really Immort ale was no good? That was next on my "hitlist".....expensive, like $45 I believe...

Alcohol content has very little to do with the overall taste of beer. The ingredients used and the brewing process are more determining factors. Delirium Tremens, made in Belgium, which has won many awards, has an alcohol content of over 8 percent. It's some of the best tasting beer around. Belgium makes the best beer in the world IMO. Just found a grocery store that sells the Tremens and Leffe, and some other German Weissbeer. It's expensive but well worth it for the beer fans. I'm a big fan of beer and if you guys are looking for some new microbrews in the US you should check out FAT TIRE, brewed in Colorado and MAGIC HAT, brewed in Vermont. For those in DC, check out the Brickskeller, for a sampling of thousands of different beers from around the world.

Then I'll have to try that sometime. So far I've found any beer with anything over 8% is almost not beer anymore, including the ones I've tried at the Belgian beer cafe in Sydney.
And remember, I'm refering to "beer", not ales or cider...

Ale is beer. It's one of the two major styles of beer, along with lager. It's just top fermented while lager is bottom fermented, but they are both beers. You consider "beer" to be just lager I guess, but that only accounts for less than half of the world's beers. Lager is everything from crappy Busch/Coors/Bud light all the way to German pilsiner, and since they are bottom fermented, they don't have as much alchohol. So yea if you're drinking a lager with extra alcohol it's probably added in, which would probably taste like crap. Do you like Ale?

And yes I know technically ale is beer - just as bitter is - but I prefer to differentiate between the two, since they are two very different beasts.
And many dark ales are - to my tastes - somewhere along that path between a lager and a type of wine. I do recall talking to some guy in a brewery in either Holland or Germany, and part of what he said was that if the beer was brewed too long it would increase the alcohol content, but would stop tasting like beer, and my savouring of certain high alcohol beers (or lagers) in Europe reinforced that.
So yes, before my initial comments about "beer" I should have differentiated between lager and ales, of which I am not an afficionado of, no matter how many I have tried.
It's a little like wine and port. I like a good wine with dinner, but cannot stand port.

One of my favorties is Bodingtons, really creamy and frothy. Dont know what the alcohol content is though.

Carlsberg Elephant brew weighs in at about 8% and by god, it's disgusting.
I'd rather drink Thunderbird.

I thought that most beer in the US was around 3.5%? I'm pretty sure that all Bud in the US is set to this level, for example.

There's a place in Philly called Monk's that serves it along with some of the best Belgium has to offer. Haven't even found any place like it in NYC.
They also have a platter with Chimay cheeses (very good in fact), fruit, grain bread and sausage that goes awesome with the Chimay beers. Best. Lunch. Ever.
