Wacom 9x12 - Give me some comments please.
Im planning on buying a 9x12 wacom Intuos 2 tomarrow, costs around as much as some design software, I would like to know, before spending the money if it is worth it.
Please give me and idea of whether you like it alot, use it enough to make it worth it..ect.. What your able to do with it.
So far from other threads ive read it looks good, but would like some more opinions.
Anyone with anykind of graphic tablet please respond.
Thank You,
-Mike

I have a 12x12 Intuos2. I really don't use it enough to justify the price. Tracing things is really easy and it comes in handy when touching up photos.

If you're doing any sort of photo editing/animation, it's invaluable. If you're doing mainly design comps, layout and/or programming, you probably don't need one as much.
I have the smaller model USB one for my laptop, and a slightly larger one for desktop.

I got the 6x9 Intuos 2, and I felt as if that was the right size for me. I've used the bigger sizes, but mind you, I just felt as if that I had to sweep my arms too far to use it as a mouse replacement as well as an artist tool.
I agree with CNO on this one... it's invaluable. But it takes a bit of time to get used to it. After you do, it's like second nature.

I also use the 6x9. I wish I had a bigger
tablet though. 6x9 is just a tiny bit
smaller than what I wanted. It's a
necessity now. It's a great tool.
Mike, you do a ton of beautiful graphics
and art. I think it'll be great.

I measured out 6x9 and it just seemed to small, Im able to so SOME traditional art, few years back I did alot of figure drawing with chacoal, I would like to be able to do that but digitally in freehand. Also just making lines "perfect" in my work would help me greatly.

Got the 12 x 12 right here as we speak. Use it for everything. I haven't had a mouse on my machine in four or five years.
Personally, i think it has a lot more applications than tracing. I find it a lot faster to use, especially with larger displays. You don't have to mouse across the screen to get to a palette or select a tool. It's direct point and click. For any sort of serious Photoshop work, it's a must.
The biggest advantage for me, however, is my health. I used to have serious problems with my wrist using a mouse all day. I tried all sorts of different mice and desk/ergonomic set ups, but always had issues. Since switching to a tablet, i haven't had any problems at all. I can work all day on a tablet without any strain at all.
Granted, everyone is built differently, but that's been my experience.

Sounds great, how do you click with it?

i just click or double click by touching the tablet. I'm on a Mac so right click is not as much of an issue, but you can set up the pen buttons to work as a right click.

Might want to pick up a copy of Painter - it's a great program, a ton of fun to work in, and there's usually a deal when you buy a Wacom (if you live in the U.S.).

Yea, I think it actually said it now comes with it, ill have to look into it.

Yes, I bought a 9x12 a year or so ago, and Painter DID come with it. I am sure it is no different now....
Enjoy it.

Painter 8 and Painter Classic are not the same thing. However, Painter 8 is basically my "secret" weapon... love that program...
since the Fractal Designer X2 version!

I just got it, very happy.
Only problem Im having is when ever I put the pen down it acts as a click, for EVERYTHING, is it possible to make it less sensitive when putting the pen down?

Mac OSX open up the Wacom application to reset the settings. Mac OS9 and Windows there's a Wacom control panels that will do what you need.
