hey, where can i get that game? it sounds so cool. there should be something like robocode (from ibm i think). then when u find the code (like isbn) u stuff it into the game and it gives u a robot which u can fight with in a multiplayer game. that would be ingenious!!! ha ha! u could use phone numbers or even emails so people can be contacted to make sure they dont fake it!!!
This all kinda stems from the 'How do you make a captivating game experience in Flash', thread.
It's fine if you want to make a super Mario Kart, or RPG game in Flash for fun, but there'll never be much commerical potential because the competing technologies are just too powerful.
However, you can win with Flash if you use it's advantages. It's relatively easy to have Flash talk with XML data stream, mySQL, PHP etc; and to have it accessed my thousands of people; plus it costs next to nothing to publish it.
This pyramid style gameplay I thought would be cool, as there aren't many technologies / platforms that could compete with it.

p.s. re: making money
I wonder if you could actually re-create the pyramid scam? e.g you log in and pay a micro-payment of 50pence/cent for the pleasure. When you refer other people to the game, half of their money goes to you, and a quater goes towards the costs of hosting the site. If your friends refer others, you get quater from them.

I havent yet seen micro-payments work. The idea is fine, but is not practical to transfer very low amounts of money.
For any idea giving some sort of reward you are faced with scammers. We all know how unsecure Flash is, if you include good enough reward, your game will be hacked down for sure, making the idea useless.
heres my first bar code checker. it checks if the barcode is real or not and also makes one which u can print out (dont have a printer so i havent tested it). there is a number there which u can use if u dont happen to have anything with a barcode on it.
*edit* only works for upc bar codes, that is bar codes with 12 digits. working on EAN, which is 13 digits.
