    Resetting XP's RPC? Help please...

So i've done it again. If you remember in last week's episode, I somehow f'd up the registry and corrupted the TCP/IP on my network. Got that fixed. Faster than you can say "Customer Service" I encounter yet another problem.

I somehow got the MSBlaster worm (I know, so July 2003), and it shut down my computer. So after rebooting, I went into Component Services and disabled the Remote Procedure Call. Then I downloaded the patch from Symantec. I then rebooted, and to my utter dismay, my StyleXP skin had been somehow removed, the start menu was hidden, and the RPC was still disabled. After some crafty finagling, I got my start menu back, then went back into Component Services to re-enable the RPC. I right clicked, went to properties, and nothing happened. Now i'm no computer genius, but shouldn't a properties window have come up?

So in essence, my problem is this; I can't restart the RPC, thus messing up the XP GUI, disabling copy/paste functionality in Flash, disabling my ability to play videos/listen to music, and other important but often overlooked procedures.

If anybody knows a way to reset/re-enable the RPC and bypass the properties tab, please let me know. This is quite aggravating, to say the least.

    Thanks,

    Reid

EDIT: Oh yeah, can't click hyperlinks, either.

    Windows(key) + R (brings up run dialog) then run C:\windows\system32\svchost -k rpcss

Hate to say it mate, but I think you've still got the virus on your machine.

I got done by blaster (i'm on win2000 not xp) and one of the symptons was the hyperlinks not working.

You've ran the MS patch but did you use the seperate blaster removal tool first?

sorry, know this seems too obvious an answer...tell me to get stuffed if you like
