Increasing video quality is it possible

Hi I using a video player for my site I have small footage for my viewers, I converted my movie clips to flv using squeese and then duration, I notice that the video quality is bad, is there a way to increase quality? thanks

Start with good source.
Compress only once at the last stage.
Compress less and export fewer key frames
Use a smart motion blur utility to smooth things out --> example http://www.mantaproductions.com/blur.html
