    Google promotes Altavista...?

Okay, so the title of this post is a bit misleading, but I find it a bit strange that when you type in 'search engine' into Google, Google is only 7th on the list.

I'm guessing they're not that botherd, as if you're searching on Google, it's proabable that you know about it.

Okay, so there's not much point to this post.

    8th here

But anyway, yes, very odd - but their page ranking technology has managed to pick it up, so they must be right.

It's 4th for me too, followed the link in the first post. Lycos is the highest ranked SE above that.

    Google works in mysterious ways.

I suspect google might be modifying the results based on the user's IP, something like that.

Ah, the nonsense trick fixes the results still

do a search on altavista for search engine, google comes ahead of altavista.
I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on ‘em. ‘Give me five bees for a quarter,’ you’d say. Now where were we? the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time.

it's on purpose, to illustrate that it's a non biased and fair engine.
