Yes the play/pause toggle button uses the "UI compopnent button" for it's functionality and the play and pause icons are actually just graphic symbols put on top of this button component...So, I guess you could open the UI components .fla and edit the graphics for the button...

For the placement of the items, I started playing around with the ActionScript files that the MediComponents use (C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Flash MX 2004\en\First Run\Classes\mx\controls). The Actionscript itself is quite understandable, but when I wanted to compile my component to .swc there was an error message everytime I wanted to tell it to use my ActionScript file rather that the standard "MediaController.as" file.
If you have any luck with this, please let me know...and the other way around of course...
