Hi, nice graphics, but you have to work on the movement for the player. Don't really working for me. I think there is a problem with your collision detection.

The graphics are great - really really nicely done!

But I agree with subway - you need to rework you player movement - its very jerky and the collision detection isnt working right - I was in quite a few locations where is looked like I should be able to move but I couldnt?

You've got a great looking game here - with a clear story/concept behind it - but at the moment the gameplay is more frustrating than fun - if you can sort that out you'll have a winner.

Yep - same problems here......looks like it could be a fantastic game but I couldn't move the character due to faulty colliosion detection.

    RE: Collision detection

Really have no idea what you guyz are having a problem with - have you rea the HELP? There is no collision detection - no need for it... mouse over the direction bars to move around town - keep an eye on the map for where you can can can't go - use your TOOLS to VISIT a house/location... Maybe it's not as self explanitory as it should be - but I've had 10 year old kids figure it out and finish the game

Let me know if you still have problems!

Hey, I didn't have any problems with your game. I finished it and I thinks it's a very amusing fun little game.
I think what the others are talking about is that when you reach the end of the map, you can't move any further, but that's just fine.

Actually, that's not what they were talking about. When I ran the game, the character I controlled (Yoppi is it?) had VERY jerky movement. If I came too close to a house he wouldn't even respond when trying to move him, unless I repeatedly pressed the arrow keys in every direction. Also, when you hold the arrow key forward, he tends to start and stop moving very shakily.. kind of like an old man driving a fast car.. gas brake gas brake gas brake gas brake

Thanks for that! I really only put in the keyboard movement as an addition - I might disable it if it's causing problems - use the mouse for navigation instead!

    Cheers

I tried the game again with the mouse instead and it seemed a little better this time. However, I think it's the way he moves overall that's choppy. It would be nice to have him move more smoothly across the screen rather than the way he does now. More "tweened" should I say? Also, as for the house thing, It wasn't due to the houses at all.. it was because I was at the map edge Hehe my mistake. But still, if the animation of the character flying were a little smoother, it would really help the gameplay. Also, if you hold an arrow key for a couple seconds and release, it takes him a second to catch up. Other than that I'd have to say that this is definitely one of the more creative and enjoyable games I've ever played, if not THE most enjoyable and creative. The graphics are neat (kind of like SimCity or something) and the functions are cool too. Kind of wish the map was bigger But all in all I think you did a great job!

    RE: Gameplay

    Thanx for the feedback Juice!

It was developed in Flash 4 - not 5 - and I'm sure once I get my head around Flash 5 there's probably more efficient ways of doing what I did. I'm aware the scrolling isn't super fast, but really it's not an action game as such so the gameplay is more in the "thinking" when playing the game. The slow scrolling is due to the town being as graphically heavy as is it - I did try and cut-down on the graphic and had it running smoother but it didn't look nearly as cool and I thought although a little choppy on slower computers - it's still more benefit having cool graphics with a little slow scrolling. Maybe I'll create another game one day and tween Yoppi instead of the background.

    Cheers - Mick

    Smile Good Game

Hey, great game, I liked it a lot. I have been working on a game for quite a while now, every so often.. it's a lot like King's Quest 5 & 6, if you've played those games before. I have all of the commands straightened out on the menu, and the world i've been building is coming along pretty well -- I'm using jpegs in each scene, like a painted background to give it more of a "King's Quest" feeling. The only problem now is actually finishing the game.. i'm just too lazy and I get sidetracked too easily.

Well, very nice work, keep it up
