    do people still use newsgroups?

    Do people still use newsgroups?

I've never used them before, aside the rare occasion I use the google newsgroup search when I can't find info on a website.

Is it just me or is newsgroup just for porn and warez? And if it is so ,then why do ISP bother offering a newsgroup server? Aren't newsgroups a little outdated? Why not stick to web forums like these?

    someone enlighten me.

I think they have been replaced by forums. Never been to one either. Its only a term that is used in IT books at schools, whichc are over out dated.

Still use them. they are invaluable. Faster information posting, updates are nearly every second of the day. Depends on what groups you choose to peruse

If you just visit binaries, of course your are not gonna get good content.

I hang out in the company sponsored ones like Macromedia and Miscrosoft. Also, news.* hierachy has a lot of issues that covers computers. rec.* has groups that cover a bunch of topics. Alt. groups are just abundant, but many of your binary groups are there. Comp.* groups is where you can get information on anything to dowith computers and thei nternet, including linux.

Your posts are full of substance these days.

But I guess it's best to be terse.

Besides your vocabulary and spelling seemingly becoming quite expanded in my bit of time away from FK - congrats btw - my statements haven't really changed much.

I'm still the same ol' grumpy bastard.
