    board games

drawing close to christmas the board games (monopoly, cluedo etc) have been coming out with family and freinds, and being the competitive bloke I am I was wondering what your stratagies to different games were.

my personal favourite, in Monopoly I buy, beg and steal until I have all the railroads... they provide a steady income for the entire game and I have yet to lose when they are all in my possesion.

I do the same, plus try to get those crappy properties that you can bulid up quick and cheap,

Also, never, never trade an orange property. If you do, make sure you get a lot in return. The Orange and Red properties are landed on the most ... in that order.

Remember that there is a limited supply of houses. Use this to your advantage. Horde them if necessary before going to hotels ... especially if an opponent with high rent properties is waiting for you to trade some in.

Just a couple of tips. Haven't played in a while though. I think the last time I did we put a drinking game spin on it ... don't remember a thing.

We played a game in college called 'Box Head'

It's certainly not a board game, but it's worth playing if you've got 6+ people who drink.

Our family isn't allowed to play monopoly with each other at Christmas anymore. It just isn't worth the bloodshed

monopoly can be won by buying the most property quicker than anyone else.

we break out the 'risk' this time of year. the key is north america and europe. if you have all/most of those two continents, the world is yours for the taking.

dominos - count the bones, and stay out of the boneyard.
    gin - count the cards.
    hearts - count the cards.
euchre - get a good partner.

Ah, these boys is all swelled up. So this was earlier...getting set to trade. Then, woooaaah differences.

The only board game I will play is phpMyDesktop|arcade ... me and my beta testers, but mostly with myself, hunting the last minor bugs.

Actualy I will take a free day like everyone else, but just don't tell anyone.

Man Nords ... I forgot about Risk. Guess I'll have to break it out soon. Nothing like day-long game of world domination with some friends and a case (or more) of good brew.

Euchre ... does anyone from outside the midwest know of this one? Just curious. Ever play bid eucre? Closer to Spades in the sense that you have to bid the number of tricks you'll get ... plus you play with a full deck.

I used to like Stratego, but haven't played in a while. Same with Clue, but I'm not sure there's any real strategy to that one. Just the luck of the draw, the dice, and random decision making I guess.

never played bid euchre, just the regular format. but i've been playing since i was old enough to know how. huge family tournaments.

stratego rocked. i recently found my electronic version in my parents attic - nearly useless, but cool nevertheless...

clue is not that fun as an adult. i really think it's too easy...
