    [BETA] Aureus Dynasty

Everything is pretty much planned out for Aureus, so all I'm asking for is bugs, not suggestions (unless they're REALLY good!).

    http://www.gotcool.com/flash/?title=...ovieHeight=360

    World
    - Arrow Keys to move
    - Spacebar to open menu/select menu items
    - Shift to close out menu/menu items
    Battle
    - Arrow Keys to change selection
    - Space to select

If you move to the far right on the cobblestone for the map with the people on it, or the far left on the map without, you can see that there is a few seconds of lag when switching maps. This is because of all of the loops that are being run setting up the hero, main characters, objects, tiles, civilians, etc. I hope (and think that) this lag will not occur once FP8 is released.

If you want to see the first stages of the battle system (just a menu for now), walk to the top left of the first map. Pressing space while Mercury's shoes are selected in the battle menu will take you to the second map.

Hey man, its been a while!

Lookin great, a good improvement on the last beta/alpha I saw. Nice music, and great overall feel. Love the menu system too. My only complaint is that the graphics are a little too .... pixelated for me. But that may be the style your going for, its just a matter taste.

About the lag between maps, I wouldn't put too much stock in FP8. Granted, I haven't heard that much about it, but I think it would be easy enough to slap up a quick "Please Wait...." mc while it works rather than hope the next version of the player will make up for it.

Overall, great work, looks like you have the makings of a very cool RPG here

Personally, I'm with you on the graphics. But the artist loves old school, and I have to admit, he's pretty good at it

About the lag, I think I might just plug in a little "Loading..." like you said.

    Thanks

i like the dragon quest feel to it. even the text when searching/talking when nothing/no one is around.
the only bug i noticed is that the blue knight on the right side of the village got stuck in the doorway of the weapon shop, so i couldn't go in. he kept trying to walk right into the side of the wall. are they just set up on a random walk pattern? i left and came back and he had moved, but it'd get annoying if he kept doing it.
besides that looks great, i like the character design and animation during conversations. nice menu design.
a little bit of imagination goes a long way...

I added a "Loading Map..." message.

As for the civilian movement, yes, it's completely random. I asked the artist (he's like the director of this whole thing) and he says you'll just have to wait it out if someone gets in your way.

    Glad you like it

I don't have time to play it much but it looks very promising. The pixelated gfx are a nice break from all the cartoonish vector stuff.

I love it, smooth and good looking. large pixels are the only thing I crave for in a game.

A simple way to reduce the lag when loading a new map is to spread it accross frames. Place 1/5 of the total tiles in each frame. In the mean time you can have a loading message, but atleast it wont freeze up on some poor dudes computer.

This looks realy good and I love the old school style of it, and the music.

My favorite part is "I guard this tile with my life!!!"from some soldier.

    I keep walking through bushes/trees.
