One or two tracks on the CD won't kill it as most CDs contain mostly (at least half) Garbage tracks anyhow... Heck if they wanted to they could leak one of them out as MP3 prior to releasing the CD to test the waters- if the file swappers eat it up it would show some demmand and would further hype the whole CD if it fails they kill the tracks and claim they were never planned/made but chalk it up as a hoax.

It's kind of interesting how things work..
Some groups crash when they try to write their own stuff...others have thrived and propelled themselves to legendary status on it. Sting, Elton John, heck..even the Carpenters (and of course John Denver!) 
Most pop stars are singers...not neccessarily musicians. They don't have the stuff it takes to write good music.
