    Sony Admits MP3 Error

Well, I guess at least they are honest about it.

"In a rare show admission of taking a wrong turn, Sony's officials have admitted that their stance on MP3 players was wrong." While this was pretty obvious to anyone who has ever shopped for a portable MP3 player, it is nice to see Sony admit their shortcoming. Ken Kutaragi puts it best when he says, "We're growing up," and with any luck future devices won't be crippled with silly formats no one uses.

I guess they could have made an impression if they got out there straight away like Creative etc... but weren't they trying to save Mini Disc ?

Doesn't their new HD player allow mp3 compression as well as atrac3? Or are they taking out atrac3 altogether and going with standalone mp3?

    New one supports both.

They've made some very silly mistakes. They really haven't got their act together with the whole Media Center computers, which really seem to be taking off now. You would think Sony, with all their other products would be one of the first people to link your computer to your TV, but I've never seen a Windows XP Media Center Sony PC, but I have seen HPs and Gateways.

They missed the boat on the digital music players, but they do seem to be catching up quickly. Only problem is, most of their target market have already got iPods and don't really want to switch.

They look like they're going to win this Blu-ray thing though. Toshiba vs. the rest of the industry, who have a better product - no bets required.
