You should try it again. A great game indeed it was, perfectly redoable in Flash. You could find an old snes rom on the net to remember how it was.

You had to kill terrorists or some enemy soldiers as far as I can remember.

The baddies were walking on "patroulies" or however you say that and attacked when in sight. You could destroy one or two things in the level like walls and fences sometimes. You could chose from a group of soldies you comand. Either you command all or just the activated one. There were medics and normal soldiers or so. Sometimes a specific soldier had to sourvice or you had to go resque or destroy. You clicked a soldier and then lucas art style you clicked on the ground to make em move. Left click on a baddie to shoot. And may be the grenades where on right click of the mouse. There were also bazookas and stuff. Ice, desert and jungle levels and such. Just a really great game.
I still have them somewhere probably but they won't run anymore ^^.

You always had a bunch of new recruts (lives). When you failed a mission (all soldiers died) you could recrute new soldiers as long as there were some. If a soldier sourvived he got promoted and stronger or so.

    [EDIT]
Oh yeah, the baddies.. sometimes you had to destroy buildings where baddies spawned until you destroyed it.
    [/EDIT]

I don't remember too much of the game though.

    chap above describes it nicely.

was a fantastic game, surprised there aren't a few of this style game done in flash already - as Hasufel mentioned, would be entirely possible if handled correctly. Maybe if you start one it'll trigger a rash of them like gta games!

It is a great game, I played it a bit a couple of weeks ago in DOS. I think I downloaded it from DOS Games Archive.

Keep us posted on your progress!

cannon fodder one of my all time favourite games, leech described it pretty well, you got a different amount of soldiers each level depending on what the level was and you could split them up into teams and leave a couple behind to fend for themselves, there were also vehicles like skidoos and jeeps, was a very cool game, bit like syndicate really, they really dont make those kind of games any more, its a shame because with polished graphics and bigger missions they would be great.

i actually started a cannon fodder prototype ages ago but only did the click to move, control and click to fire and enemies firing with line of sight, i might start the project up again sometime in the future.

hope you make something like CF in flash, it could be really cool.

ps.it was left click to move, right click to fire and both held down together to throw grenades or bazookas depending on what you had selected, oh and your men could get killed by blown up fences and flying roofs from a building you blew up. God that used to be frustrating, get to the end of the level, blow up the final house and bam your men are all wiped out by a bit of roof.

haha, I've been planning a cannon fodder game for ages, but only started coding it up and doing the graphics a few weeks ago, havent run into any difficultys so far, its all fairly straight forward code-wise.

I'd recommend downloading a dos version or emu version and playing it through, I found there were lots of little things about the gameplay that I'd forgotten.

Something that no one has mentioned yet is you could shoot bodies after you'd killed them to move them. Also sometimes if you shot someone he would lie on the ground screaming until you finished him off.

As well as enemies wandering around the map there are also huts that spawn enemies at regular intervals, you have to find some grenades or rockets to destroy these.

    Good luck!

    De ja vu!

That's so weird.. The control experiments I posted from a few days back ( http://www.flashkit.com/board/showth...hreadid=622266 ) were actually for a game design that would play similar (though in a lot ways very different) from CF, except it would be multiplayer.

The people who have posted here. Are you artists or coders? Would you be interested in working on a multiplayer version perhaps?

Hey Sand, Im mainly a coder but I do game art occasionally. I would love to do a multiplayer version with you (battalion is very impressive!) however Im stacked at the moment with freelance stuff as well as work so I wouldnt be able to predict when I could work on the game.

I'll get back to you when I've finished the single player game and see if you're interested in doing multiplayer conversion.
