Skillset query - beyond Action Scripting

I've got a couple bookstore gift certificates I want to use up, and I'm already stocked up on AS references (O'Reilly ASDG 2nd edition and AS Essentials 2.0) up to Flash 7.0, so my questions are, what additional skills should I develop, and in what order?

I've seen references in posts to Perl, CGI, XML, HTML, Lingo, PHP, and other stuff to address specific problems. I use KM at work for small things on the corporate website, or in marketing presentations. What should I be learning next that enhances flash capabilities the most?

Based on posts from the Senior Members, right now I'm thinking XML and HTML. Beyond that, I'm clueless.

My short term Flash goal is to make better stand alone presentations and business related stuff. Mid term goal, set up a personal web page, do some flash work for friends and family. Long term I may chuck civilization and move to the North Woods with my girlfriend. (We all need our dreams! Hmmm...The cabin has electricity, I could still do some web work....)

Any guidance appreciated, also any advice on what doesn't work or things to avoid. From some of Necromanthus posts, it seems that the apps/languages that a person uses can evolve over time. Thanks!

Yeah, mother's day is coming up. I could always get mom a really expensive book.

    I don't have any clue (because I don't use books,AS books I mean ...LOL).
Anyway, ActionScript is based on ECMA-262 (similar with JavaScript).
Works fine in conjunction with XML (you may create some nice databases in this way).
Now talking about books and your request, visit MacroMedia's site.
They have some great references there, and I'm sure you'll find some links to (online) AS books.

You could always buy your Mom a really good book on java scripting and developement. Javascript will always go hand in hand with flash and action script developement mainly due to the similarity of usage.

Thanks Necromanthus and Gusmus! Both excellent suggestions, and very appreciated.
