Yes. Flash Player 8 has added support for loading PNG, GIF and Progressive JPGs.

I hope it works better than the current player 8. I've tried this functionality, I've been waiting for such a feature. Yet a rotated runtime loaded png had jagged edges. I hope this will be fixed for production.

is _quality set to "BEST" ?
at any rate, there are too many new begged for features in F8, I'm not going to complain. Seeing as rotated images always had jagged edges, and generally poor appearence, then the very presence of PNG is an incredible advancement, jagged edges(when rotated) or not.
PS - how did you make that test? do you have Flash 8 beta?

All the normal names were taken.
Ron Paul was right.

Yeah, did you change the bit flat of the player version in the .swf ?
-
The png on the right looks fantastic compared to the one on the left, and was rotated via actionscript. The png on the left was loaded externally at runtime and looks pretty bad.

Using 8,0,0,434 (Firefox 1.0.5 / Win2K SP4)
That's pretty bad.

...and now I have tape all over my face.

How did you get that to show? Even on my own computer I can't get the embedded image to show, only the loaded png shows in my browser.

Updated to FP8 version 8,0,5,0 and now it works, yet image quality still same results.
-
Yes, but have you changed the version of the .swf? I presume you are exporting from Flash 7 right? Are you doing anything to change it into a Flash 8 .swf?
-
Of course. I have an XML profile setup in flash IDE which exports as FP8.
