I hate CompUSA.
So I'm heading to college in about a week, so I thought I'd buy some speakers and a mouse for my Powerbook. I head to CompUSA, since it's the only Apple retailer around, and I pick up JBL Creature II speakers (which are lovely, btw) and the new MightyMouse.
I get home, install the speakers, then open the Mouse box. To my surprise, there's no mouse in the box.
I thought it felt sort of light. 
I called them and explained the situation, but I have no idea what they're going to do. I can't come in tonight since the manager I need to speak to isn't on, so I need to wake up early tomorrow and go talk to him.
Damnit.

contact apple directly, fedxp lost my shuffle a while back called both apple and fedex to explain, apple shipped a new shuffle and it arrived before fedex called back to follow up.

Somebody just told me they heard a story once about a guy who bought a Plasma tv. When he got home, all he found in the box were bricks and they wouldn't refund him his money.
Sure, the difference between that story and mine is about 2,000 bucks, but still. If I'm out $50, I'm going to seek revenge, Marv-in-Sin-City style.

Call the corporate offices. Have your parents back you up. Go above the local store and get what you paid for.
My camera was missing a part, and CompUSA argued with me, locally. I got the district manager, who did listen to everything I was talking about - wasn't returning the camera, it was a small part of the camera missing, I had no reason to lie...
Anyway, they sent me the part quickly. And yeah... I was about to incite the riot act on them.

I think its unfair for you to say that you "hate" CompUSA because one of their boxes turned out to be empty. We have boxes empty here ALL the time. We have boxes without manuals, CD's, cables etc etc all the time. It's a very common mistake to make.
What SHOULD decide whether you hate them or love them though, would be how they respond to your problem, how quick they are, and whether they apologise for your inconvenience or not. And, if you're really lucky (we here aint), they'll stick something extra in the deal just to make you happy.
"Hate" is such a strong word.

Ok, so I guess I don't really "hate" CompUSA. I do, however, have a strong dislike for them.
With that said, they exchanged the mouse without a problem. I'm digging it so far.

Everyone makes mistakes (corporations are legally "people," and therefore also fall into this generality).
It is how the mistake is corrected that matters.

I worked at a CompUSA during my college days. We once had a complex store break-in. They actually cut a hole in the ceiling, climbed down on a rope, broke a hole through a wall and into the laptop storage room and stole 11k worth of computers, etc. You could see black boot marks up the side of the wall.
But, yeah, not one of my favorite jobs. They do suck. Tried to rip me off out of comissions and then fired me when I called them on it.
