do the new macs come standrad with this?
does the iMac come standard with a video capture card? i am going to be transferring vhs to dvd and will have final cut pro (video editing software). will the software do the trick or do i need a video capture card and does this come with the iMac already?

you won't need a capture card... this is what I do and it works great on my powerbook G4.
I bought for $200 the MovieBox by Pinnacle Systems
I plug into it whatever I want and it allows me to capture video straight into iMovie. Its got RCA ports, s-video, firewire. I plug the vhs to the MovieBox and then that plugs to my G4 via Firewire and I'm good to go.
Just an option for ya'

The iMacs don't come with capture cards, by the way.
Possibly you've seen video capture over firewire, which does come as standard, but this needs a DV camera or something with firewire output...not on your VHS I'm guessing.

so is there not like a cheap cable i can get from radio shack or something that has the red/white/yellow cables on one end and a firewire on the other end?
or is the only way to go with this pinnacle moviebox? is it a software or hardware?

both, although on OS X you won;t need the software just plug and play
