Compressing files, rar or zip?
What do you guys use to compress files? I have been using winrar forever, but I just submitted a file to my teacher as a .rar and she gave me an F because it was not a .zip. Now I have to go get winzip to make her happy.
So what is your opinion, rar, zip or some other like 7 zip? Why one and not the other?

For a lot of final software releases, .rar is a popular choice for compression. You can use Winrar to make a zip. You don't have to get Winzip. You have to select "archive format."

eh, didn't even look for that. I have never had this problem...I am still really pissed she gave me an F because it was a rar

tar it, then gzip it, then rar it again, 7zip it, stuffit, then usehacha to break it in pieces, then zip it. I'd like to see your teacher's reaction after that

ZIP is kind of standard now....even Windows XP makes zip files without any third party software.

I'm not that hard to imitate. Just make some random negative claim at Apple or anything else for that matter and then have nothing to back it up.

Yeah but it is still slow to unzip and doesn't compress the files as well.
Besides she is a programming teacher! If this was am english class or something I could understand, but seriously, is it being a rar worth am F? grrrr

I would have put that teacher on the spot in front of everybody... did they specify *.zip for their file submission via the curriculum, were they that inept that he/she couldn't have figured out what would have opened a *.rar file - google search it out, idiot teacher? but I challenged all of my teachers on the norm... was usually right too.
