Whatever the case, it looks as though Sony will be relying on Memory Sticks in portable players, which leads me to believe that they won't compete well against the (video) iPod (the cost-per-Megabyte difference between the two is significant).
yay. more speculation.

If I read that right... almost 700 bucks a loss for each PS3... if it were to be taken as a standard Blu-ray player? Wow.
I doubt it will be that much of a difference though... maybe a 100-200 dollar difference/loss per machine, but that's made up by high software sales.
Anyway... I'm still diggin' up on the PSP2. Wonder what it's going to have in it. Some rumors are pointing to a micro or mobile Cell version being in it.

I was reading an article where Sony is making mini cell chips for cells phones. ummmm aren't the cell chips like the size of tacks? Why would it ever need to be smaller?
I can't wait for the Xbox 360 to come out so then Sony might actually realease official specs and release dates and prices.

Cell currently uses a 90 nanometer process... trying to shrink that down to half of that will take some time. And the chips... they're bigger than you'd think.
But the micro-Cell and the dual-Cell chips are forthcoming. cellphones was one thing being tossed around, I've also heard as part of their "digital hub" - stealing terminology from Apple's suite of PR terms - which includes the PSP (and PSP2?), PS3, and Cell based televisions and DVR's.

Yeah so is that still in their master plan? I remember a looong time ago when hearing about the cell/ps3 for the first time, it was saying that all Cell devices can grid network and share processing power. So dev. well just program for the base ps3 but if you have a cell chip based tv you get more physics and better AI and FPS? Seems interesting. But I am not buying some $$$$ Sont tv to get better looking textures.

Phantom Flasher...
Its also a heat thing though... the smaller the chip, it normally produces less heat/takes less voltage, so should run cooler/improve battery life (which are all plus points for a mobile phone)
I can't wait till my mobile phone is as powerful as my desktop computer and also plays videos/music etc...
