Critique on a logo
This is a logo I did not to long ago for a coffee shop. They were happy with it but I was kind of curious what you guys thought.

Hi it looks pretty good, the only things that stand out to me are
the cup - could look much better, and I'm not super keen on the green leaf (I guess its a leaf)
another idea is to have a top view of a coffee cup and mb a spiral swirl on the top like you get when you stir the coffee and add cream, it would be more circular (like a O )
as long as the clients happy its a winner

HUH?
Hmmmm Although this is a finished product I think it is a great start.
The leaf reminds me more of tea than coffee. Coffee has beans not leaves.
The B is hidden less than the X is behind the mug. This is throwing the balance off for me.
It looks like your going for a cartoony look. Your almost there but not quite. And if your not going for cartoony, that's what it looks like to me.
I aggree the mug could be better.
One more thing. The mug has a highlight but the letters don't. I think it would bring the whole design together better if you highlighted all the way accross.
Anyway my 2c. Please don't take my comments the wrong way, i'm just trying to give constructive criticism.

One more quick idea. I think "The Java" could be a little bigger, and maybe over the "B." I agree about the leaf – perhaps some cappuccino froth instead? I just don't think it's as immediately recognizable as a coffee joint as it could be. On the other hand, what the hell does a mermaid have to do with coffee? Maybe I'm the one who's missing something It's a good logo though, with a quick read. The spacing around the B and X don't bother me – I can tell you're trying to make the negative space between the letters and the cup match.

HUH?
crunge the thing about that negative space that bothers me is:
1. they aren't the same shape (not a huge deal) but it makes one sides deeper than the other.
and 2. the space for the X is also down by the cup handle making it seem a little heavier to the right of the logo.
These things aren't huge but every small thing makes it better.

I'll give you that. With those particular letterforms, the negative space could easily be copied on both sides. Just average it out.
